Travelling around Europe can be a costly affair, especially if you get sucked into the main tourist traps.

Aussies love to explore the continent and the UK, France, Italy and Spain tend to be particularly popular destinations.

However, it is worth realising that there are plenty of other places that are well worth a visit.

Travel expert at Cheapflights.co.uk Nadine Hallak believes Serbia is an "up and coming" country that has lots to offer tourists.

She said that the cost of everyday items is extremely cheap and Belgrade is building a reputation as a party hotspot. Its profile will be enhanced even further when it joins the EU, Ms Hallak added.

Aussies looking for the best exchange rates can expect to receive 88 Serbian dinar for just one of their Aussie dollars.

"Summer is the best season for partying and travellers should head to the barges and three story boats that serve as open air clubbing venues on the Danube River," Ms Hallak commented.
