The US is perfect for walking holidays
Although the US dollar has regained some ground on the Australian equivalent in recent weeks, it is still a good time for travellers from down under to head to the States.
One Aussie dollar gets you just over one greenback, so holidaymakers can feel slightly more confident when splashing the cash on their travel credit cards in America.
Of course, there are a myriad of places to visit in the US but the huge size of the country makes it difficult to travel around on a budget.
However, one way to limit the amount of overseas travel money you are spending is to embark on a walking tour in a particular state – and luckily, the US is one of the best places in the world for this type of excursion.
According to regional editor at Frommer's Gene Shannon, the US is "an exceptional place to hike".
"Its variety is unparalleled – you can traverse towering mountain peaks, lush woodlands, stark deserts or fertile rainforests, sometimes even within the same state," he remarked.
