Tourism chiefs desperate for Aussie families to holiday at home
Tourism chiefs in Australia are desperate for more of the country's population to stay at home when they take their annual holiday.
Representatives of Tourism Australia are particularly targeting families and hope they can persuade people to visit different parts of the nation instead of heading abroad.
"Domestic tourism is a critical segment of Australian tourism and the need exists to encourage Australians to see and experience the remarkable destinations within their own country," commented the organisation's managing director Andrew McEvoy.
Foreign trips are currently very popular among Aussies and it is easy to see why.
As well as having the excitement of visiting a new land, people from down under realise the strength of the dollar means their overseas travel money is stretching much further.
Add in the fact that the cost of living at home is high compared to a lot of places and you can soon see why so many holidaymakers leave the country.
