Travelling around the world is becoming increasingly hi-tech and Aussies need to ensure they are up to date with the latest developments.

The days of queuing up for an hour in order to check in for a flight are over and Virgin Australia is hoping to make the process even quicker for people who are taking domestic services.

It has launched a mobile boarding pass system that enables smartphone owners to book and track a reservation on their handset, before using it to check in online.

The pass is sent to the person in SMS format and this can be shown to security staff as people attempt to board the plane.

This is not the only area that technology is benefiting holidaymakers and business travellers.

A growing number of people are also using multi-currency prepaid travel cards that allow Aussies to load all of their money on to one convenient piece of plastic.

In doing so, customers are guaranteed to receive the best exchange rates possible and are also able to use their card in various different countries without having to convert their currency.
