Aussies planning a trip to the UK in the next few months will receive the best exchange rates for more than two decades, it has been revealed.

According to the Australian Associated Press, the dollar rose to its highest level against the British pound for 27 years overnight (January 17th-18th).

If this trend continues over the next couple of months, Aussies who are hoping to jet over to London for the 2012 Olympic Games could be the ultimate beneficiaries, as their cash will get them far more English money than it would have on previous visits.

Many Aussies head to the UK for gap years or just for an extended holiday, as Britain is renowned for its rich history.

However, there are plenty of other options for travellers, it seems. As well as strengthening against sterling, Australia's currency rose against the US dollar and the euro, which may make destinations within these areas more appealing to Aussies.

A recent study conducted by accommodation provider Roomorama showed that New York and London were already very popular holiday destinations among Aussies before the dollar's surge in value.
