With no purchase or reload fee, the Australia Post Load & Go Travel Card is one of the cheapest prepaid travel cards on the market.
Users can choose from five currencies (the USD, GBP, EUR, AUD or NZD) and load between $100 AUD and $10,000 AUD onto the card and once loaded, the currency's exchange rate is locked in. The great part is reloads are free, so you won't be stung by an unexpected fee if you need to transfer funds whilst overseas.
SMS, online and phone servicing allow the money on the card to be transferred between your nominated currencies and the Load & Go Travel Card can be used wherever Visa is accepted around the world.
Who it's good for:
The card is good for people who - for security reasons or otherwise - want to avoid dealing with banks. Your Load & Go account is completely separate from your bank account.
There are a few fiddly fees, particularly when it comes to the card's customer support services. A phone call to customer support will see $4 deducted from your card, and any replacements or cancellations will set you back $15.
'Big spenders' should be wary that only a total of $25,000 can be loaded onto the card over a 12 month period.
And, as the card isn't associated with any bank, there are no friendly deals with certain ATM providers. Any trip you make to an ATM will see $2 deducted from your card, in addition to any extra fees charged by that particular ATM provider.
