The Commonweath Bank is good, and the debit master card makes things easier for me to purchase things online. They are the only bank i know of that will allow students, under the age of 18 have one, which is really great. Their customer service is great, although this may seem like a bit of an oxymoron, their customer service is "A bit too much" They are too "In your face" for me. I've never been to a bank or place like it. you walk in the door, and WHAM! a person wanting to know everything about you, and why you are there. Then you get to a counter, and they introduce themselves, as if they are going to be your best friend. ITS A BANK! NOT A DATING AGENCY! I go there to do banking, nothing more, sure friendly people are a plus, but frankly, all the little "My name is _____, And I'm a teller, how can i help you today?" "How has your day been?" "Is there anything else I can help you with" There gets a point where Too Much customer service becomes deadly.

The debit card is accepted by most businesses nationally. The card is reliable and bank statements are easy to read. Online access is available. New 'products' appear from time to time; the booklets providing explanation of 'rates & use' can be tedious, which does not encourage review. Cheque deposits must occur in bank hours; sometimes difficult depending on ones location and work hours.

This card gives you all the flexability of a credit card, WITHOUT the debt! You can use it for all purchases in stores and online or to pay utilities online or over the phone. ALL without the interest or accumulating debt and huge interest rate charges. You only spend the money you have available in your account. I find the staff (both in branches or customer support) all very friendly and truly helpful. This bank have supported and stood by me through both difficult and good times!

When initially setting up my account, it was quite personal. I had the same Commonwealth Bank employee throughout the whole process, which made me feel I could ask them anything. It's quite daunting setting up bank accounts when young, because I don't really know about interest and what schemes are best for me, but I really felt like the bank was looking out for me and catering specifically to my needs. The only thing that would make things better is if the bank was open more often. I would 8am - 5pm during the week and can't always make it on a Saturday.

I love the Commonwealth Debt Master Card as i can buy anything online using my own money. It acts the same as a credit card only your using your own money so there is no nasty monthly credit card fees. With a credit card the percentage rate is always changing. The only downside is if you don't have the money in your account you can't purchase what you want. But in saying that ( i have a overdraw limit of $400 which is always there if needed in case of an emergency ). The Debt Master Card is great to have if you don't want to be paying interest & having the ability to purchase items on line any time.

I love my Commonwealth debit card because it allows me to shop online using my own money. I am terrified of having a credit card because I know I will keep using it until it is overdrawn and never be able to pay it back. This way I have the convenience of a credit card but the restraint of my own finances. The thing I hate about it is that I live in a small town and there is no commonwealth bank ATM here and the supermarket only allows $50 cash out, so for larger sums I either have to pay the $2.50 it costs to use a non-commonwealth bank ATM or take it out in $50 increments.

I found this was the best and most helpful bank when I came over from New Zealand in January 2008. I visited four banks to apply for transferring funds and this bank was the most helpful. It has been so helpful that I have recommended quite a few relatives coming here to open accounts with the Commonwealth Bank and have had great feedback from same persons.
