I'm impressed with Ubank, they do offer a great rate and as interest rates go up with the RBA the savings account will I believe continue to reward. Customer service is attentive when I needed to withdraw money fast they ensured it happened. They did have some problems with their SMS verification system at one point. I do advise that you link an account to your Ubank account ASAP to ensure you can access funds easily. It's only a new product/banking facility, but it's backed by the NAB, so comes from good stock! I have found the customer service to be brilliant - having to reset my password a couple of times! - and with no fees and what I think is the best online interest rate going at the moment, it's fantastic. I love that you can select a goal and have a little picture for it - and you can track how your savings are progressing, and see how long it will take you to read your goal! It's also brilliant because it doesn't HAVE to be connected to another savings account, and you can do deposits straight in from your pay. UBank is definitely a mixed bag. They offer what are by far the best rates for an High Interest Savings Account but fall down in terms of product features and the quality of their online interface. The product itself is good as a no fees account but it is somewhat limited in terms of what transactions you are able to make and transfers in are actually fairly difficult. The web interface used to transfer money in operates in such a way that each of these transactions takes 3 days rather than the more normal 1 day. Customer service is generally good although it can take a long time. A request for an interim statement for my account took a 4 days to be processed and another 6 for delivery. Likewise, not much assistance was provided when a large sum of money was tied up in a protracted transfer process. The web interface used by UBank is clunky and poorly set out. For novice users it may be difficult to navigate and understand, especially when compared to good interfaces such as those used by NAB and CBA. On the whole, I recommend UBank if only for the exceptional interest rate. The interests rates are higher than any other major bank and it offers a low level of risk as it is backed by NAB. It was quite easy to set up the account and the security features such as SMS security checks are reassuring. However, the internet interface can initially be a tad confusing but once you are used to it is is fairly easy to navigate. I have just joined UBank, due to them having a higher interest rate at the moment. The website is refreshing. It makes you think, "Finally a bank is REALLY trying to talk in commonsense language." (Not just claiming to do so.) I did find *email* customer service quite disappointing. Twice I emailed them. The first time, not all my questions were answered, and those that were, the answers were unnecessarily complicated and not always related to my questions. The second time was just after I signed up. A page popped up that listed several steps to complete the signup process. If you click anything on that page, you will never SEE that page itself again. I couldn't find those steps again on the site, so I emailed and asked where the page was. I was told there was no way to view the page again! Ok, the steps were simple enough... Link an account, setup a monthly automatic direct debit... But even so, you should be warned the page won't be available anywhere again. Initially the online signup process was wonderful! So many online banks claim you can "sign up online". But only after entering all your details, you then have to PRINT the application, find a Justice of the Peace, mail it in... (Hardly what you'd call an "online" sign up.) They all say it, but UBank really IS different. At least where initial sign up is concerned. Enter your drivers license number, tax file number, home address, etc. Enter a code you receive via SMS to confirm. If you want the bonus interest, link an external account (or open a "normal" one with them) so a monthly direct debit can take place (by simply entering its BSB and account number)... and your account is open for business! Then, if you linked an account, one more day to receive a 1 cent deposit along with a confirmation code, and your external (or new) account is linked as well. That's no printing. No identification "points" to show to a JP to get their "permission" to trust a bank with YOUR money. No stamp. No Post Office. No footwork. Wow! (This is how applying for an account should ALWAYS be.) We did hit a strange glitch when it came time for my wife to sign up. Possibly due to information still stored in a cookie on my computer!? The site didn't follow the same sign up process as it did with my sign up. It didn't ask her name, address, license number, etc. It just gave her the first screen where you enter your email address and chosen password, she clicked continue, then it immediately accepted her as a new client! I phoned them about this (wow - 24/7 support!), and they couldn't shed any light on why it happened. So we just entered all her other details (name, address, etc.) ourselves manually, after logging in. Tip: If you are signing up two people on the same computer, I would probably use two different web browsers just in case. It wasn't that big a deal, but was definitely disconcerting. (I initially thought my wife's account had just been linked with mine.) Phone support was friendly, commonsense, and helpful. This is a great online savings account. The UBank savings interest rate is the strongest point. Furthermore, all of the additional features add up to provide a strong product. These features include - linked savings plans, savings goals, and tracking your savings based on cumulative interest on a savings schedule. Further to this you receive a bonus in your interest rate if you have a regular linked savings contribution going into the account. They are backed by NAB, so peace of mind is strong.
