TV shows and movies filmed in exotic locations are inspiring people to travel

Ever watched a TV show or movie and felt inspired to visit the filming location? You’re not alone.

New data from American Express’s 2023 Global Travel Trends Report finds that 70% of Gen Z and millennials have been inspired to travel to a destination after seeing it in a TV show, movie or news source.

A good example of this is the popular HBO Max show, White Lotus, which happens to be set in beautiful and mesmerising locales. Season 1 was filmed at a Four Seasons resort in Sicily and Season 2 was filmed at another Four Seasons resort in Maui.

The success of this show has resulted in increased tourism to these locations, specifically.

According to executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Four Seasons, Marc Speichert, both properties have experienced a significant jump in website visits and availability checks and for the upcoming season in Sicily, the property is sold out over a number of holiday periods.
