Business credit cards information

Company credit cards are a great way to manage business expenses and cashflow, while earning rewards on your outgoings.  Therea are a wide range of business credit cards - from corporate American Express to a business MasterCard or Visa - which cater to a variety of needs such as low interest rates, low annual fees, and the best company card rewards programs.

It's all about picking what's right for your business; a rewards program including frequent flyer points could help with paying for business flights, but a low rate business credit card might be better for managing cash flow on a regular basis for small businesses.

Business credit card interest rates

If your business pays off the monthly balance, you'll be more interested in a business credit card with interest-free days. However, if you're looking to manage cashflow through credit, your small business credit card should have a low interest rate - perhaps at the expense of a higher annual fee or no rewards program.

More FAQs about business credit cards

How do I apply for a business credit card?

It’s crucial to thoroughly research the different business cards out there and make your decision based on the features that matter to your business. Once you've found the deal that's perfect for you, you can apply simply online in minutes with your chosen provider - just make sure you have your key business registration details handy.

Will I pay more interest and fees on a business credit card?

In most cases, business credit cards have a higher interest rate than that of a personal card, but they’re tax deductible. Because corporate cards generally have a higher interest rate, it is in your best interest to keep ongoing debt to a minimum or alternatively look at small business loans instead.

Also keep in mind that with business rewards credit cards, you usually pay a pretty big annual fee. Take into consideration whether or not the rewards you are getting a) are suitable for your business, and b) are worth what you’re paying for them.

Should I use my personal credit card instead?

For some small business owners, using their personal credit card over a business credit card is an option but there are a few things to consider. While using your personal card may minimise fees, give you a lower interest rate or even maximising rewards in some cases, it’s not always ideal to use over a business credit card. You’ll have to deal with the hassle of separating personal and business expenses when you use the same card, plus you may also come across issues when proving to the tax office what is a business expense and what’s personal one. Additionally, everything you do on that card could affect your personal credit score, like if you miss a payment or max out your card.
