How can I make the most out of Sydney WorldPride with Amex?

sydney world pride celebration hosted by american express credit cards

This year’s Mardi Gras is a little bit different, with Sydney scoring the honour of hosting the annual WorldPride festivities for 2023. With people from across the world coming together to celebrate diversity and pride for 17 days from February to March, it’s bound to be a party you won’t want to miss - and American Express is the principal sponsor.

While there’s plenty to do this summer, if you’re an Amex cardholder you might want to take a look at what’s on offer, as you may be able to take advantage of special perks and access to events, many of which are selling out fast.

What does my Amex membership give me access to at World Pride?

Amex cardholders can gain access to a range of special offers and events for WorldPride. These include early access and discounted tickets to the Mardi Gras Film Festival for customers paying with Amex (terms and conditions apply) and a range of special offers with Barry’s Australia where customers can access discounted gym memberships and class packs.

There will also be Amex specific sites located throughout WorldPride events for American Express members to take advantage of, such as the Amex Lounge at Fair Day and the Amex House takeover of Sydney nightlife institution, The Oxford.

Amex has also launched the With You & Proud initiative. This is a competition that will allow people to nominate their friends and loved ones who show exceptional support, involvement with or dedication to the LGBTIQ+ community a chance to win a special WorldPride experience (terms & conditions apply). This will allow them tickets to the WorldPride opening ceremony, VIP viewing of the Mardi Gras Parade, and more.

What is WorldPride?

WorldPride is a regularly held pride event licensed by InterPride, recognised as the largest LGBTQI+ pride event of the years it has been on. It has been held since 2000, where the inaugural world pride celebrations were held in Rome, Italy.

This year’s WorldPride in Sydney coincides with Australia’s own biggest LGBTQI+ pride event, the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2023. It also celebrates 5 years of marriage equality in Australia.

The event hosts a major Human Rights conference focusing on LGBTQI+ issues, as well as a whole host of events including the 30th Anniversary Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival and Powerhouse Late: WorldPride evenings.

If you’ve been looking to sweeten the deal with your chosen credit card, this event might offer an exciting way to make the most of some extras.
