Mozo Experts Choice Awards Methodology
How did we choose the 2025 Mozo Experts Choice Car Insurance Award winners?
Our approach to insurance awards is to seek out and reward:
- Exceptional Value - Insurance that’s among the best-priced for the main features it offers, based on a comparison of prices for selected customer scenarios.
- Exceptional Quality - Insurance cover that leads the market in the generosity of additional benefits and flexibility of options - irrespective of price.
Analysis is based on premium prices from July 2025 and policy features as of July - August 2025.
Australia's Best and Highly Commended Insurer Awards
We have identified the best providers across the Car, Home & Contents, Landlord assessments, naming them as Australia's Best Insurer, and those performing very competitively as Highly Commended Insurers. The following winners have demonstrated outstanding performance in multiple categories, making them worthy of consideration across car and home insurance.

- Budget Direct has once again been crowned our Australia’s Best Value Insurer for 2025. This marks seven years in a row for Budget Direct has taken out one of our major awards. Exceptional Value Awards Criteria
Our assessment of value is based on a comparison of quotes for over 8,000 unique customer scenarios for car insurance. For each product, we found the proportion of customer scenarios where they would rank as the cheapest, indicating a product is well-priced for a wide range of customers.
To compare prices among products that offer broadly similar levels of cover, we performed the quote comparisons three times:
- A comparison of all products in our pricing dataset to find the very cheapest offerings. In this comparison we assumed no optional extras were taken, and that premiums were paid annually. For car insurance, we also analysed pay-as-you-drive quotes alongside regular quotes.
- A comparison of products that included the options for no-excess windscreen cover and hire car after accident. In this second comparison we assumed optional extras were taken up where necessary, and that premiums were paid annually.
- A comparison of products that achieved a very high score in our Quality Awards assessment - as described in the next section.
We awarded Exceptional Value Awards to products that scored highly in each of the three comparisons.
For the Exceptional Value Young Driver Insurance award, the calculation process used quote scenarios for drivers under 25, evaluating policies that were competitively priced for young drivers.
We applied the same method for scenarios involving drivers over 55, in determining our Exceptional Value Senior Driver Insurance award.
For the Exceptional Value EV Insurance calculation, we focused on quote scenarios exclusively for electric vehicles and identified the most affordable EV insurance policy.
Exceptional Quality Awards Criteria
Our assessment of Quality is based on how well the product scores on a large range of different factors including the nature and extent of the insurance cover, the inclusion of added benefits. The assessment of cover relied on product information in each insurance company's Product Disclosure Statements and published on websites.
Factors considered in the Exceptional Quality Car Insurance award:
- Accidental death cover for driver
- Agreed or market value
- Baby capsule or seats
- Choice of repairer
- Emergency options
- Emergency repairs without assessment
- Genuine parts
- Legal liability

- New car if written off
