Google’s latest mobile phones have landed, with the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro coming in at a starting price of $999 and $1,299 respectively.  

Packed with features like more RAM, wireless charging, and improved in-screen fingerprint unlock – all powered by the Google Tensor G2 chip – the Google Pixel 7 range gives Apple’s latest iPhone 14 range a run for its money.

Apart from the display size, there are a few other hardware specs that differ between the Pixel 7 and its Pro counterpart.

Display

The Pixel 7 range boasts HD displays with full 24-bit depth for 16 million colours, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio for rich blacks, HDR (high dynamic range) support, Scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass Victus cover glass, and an always-on display.

Battery

The battery in the Pixel 7 range can last over 24 hours on a full charge but can stretch itself for up to 72 hours on Extreme Battery Saver mode. The battery is capable of fast charging (including fast wireless charging) and you can even charge other devices wirelessly with Battery Share.

The only difference stated by Google between the 7 and 7 Pro batteries is the battery capacity itself.

Design

The back of the phone on both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are made from Edgeless Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, but the frame material changes between the two. Google says that the phones both utilise a fingerprint-resistant coating and that the phones are IP68 dust and water-resistant.

Memory and storage

You have the option to choose your internal storage size on the Pixel 7 range, however, the Pixel Pro offers the largest storage capacity. Choosing larger internal storage will also bump up the price of your new Pixel phone.

Security

Both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro phones come with a Titan M2 security chip and security core, and come with in-screen fingerprint unlock and facial recognition unlock capabilities. One feature slated for future updates includes a built-in VPN, which will be powered by Google One. 

Processors

The Google Pixel 7 range comes equipped with the Google Tensor G2 processor. 

Rear cameras

The Google Pixel 7 comes with two cameras, whereas the Pixel 7 Pro comes with an extra telephoto camera for extra zoomed-in pics.

Front camera

The front camera on the Google Pixel 7 range is a 10.8 MP, fixed focus selfie machine, with an aperture of ƒ/2.2, a 92.8° field of view, and 1.22 μm pixel width.

Audio

The speakers on the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones have stereo output. But for recording audio, there are three microphones that support noise suppression for clearer recording and more accurate voice-control features. 

Operating system/software 

The Pixel 7 range comes with Android 13 at launch.
