You can now earn Qantas Status Credits on ANZ and AMEX credit cards

For the first time, Qantas Frequent Flyers will now be able to earn Bonus Status Credits by signing up for an eligible credit card from either AMEX or ANZ.

Status Credits allow members to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum status in the Qantas Frequent Flyer program - to reach Silver, members need to stack up 300 Status Credits - and are usually only earnt by buying flights.

But now, frequent travellers can earn 75 Bonus Status Credits when they are approved for a Qantas American Express Ultimate Card or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Card. That’s about the equivalent Status Credit earn of two return flights between Sydney and Melbourne.

“More than a third of credit card spend in Australia is done on Qantas Points-earning cards so we know there’s great appetite for these rewards,” said Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant.

“Status Credits are highly prized by Qantas Frequent Flyers and while members will still need to fly to earn these Bonus Status Credits, we think our members will be delighted to have a new opportunity to earn them.”

To be eligible for the Bonus Status Credits, new cardholders will still need to take to the sky by booking and travelling on an eligible return Qantas flight using their new card between 6 March and 30 September 2017.

The new offer will be welcome news for American Express rewards lovers and ANZ customers, after ANZ announced recently it would no longer be offering AMEX companion cards with its rewards credit card range.

“No matter which card they use, customers can look forward to planning their next holiday, confident that every dollar spent is earning the maximum number of points without any limit on the number of points they can earn every year,” said Rachel Stocks, American Express Managing Director for Australia & New Zealand.

On top of the Status Credits on offer, both cards also come with a sign-up bonus of 75,000 Qantas points - enough to book a flight from Sydney to London - though different conditions apply to each card.

Usually, to stack up that many Qantas points, members would need to book more than three one way, first class tickets between Sydney and London.
