ANZ is one of Australia's "Big Four" banks, offering a range of banking products including term deposits, savings accounts, insurance, credit cards, and loans. They offer services both to personal and business banking customers.

Among its two term deposit options, the ANZ Advance Notice Term Deposit stands out with much higher rates. However, these higher rates are designed for savers who are willing to provide 31 days' notice for early withdrawals in exchange for rates higher than its standard term deposit.

Our verdict

ANZ's Advance Notice Term Deposit could be a good option for savers looking to lock away their cash for a fixed interest period. With this account, you get a higher interest rate than ANZ’s standard account by agreeing to provide 31 days' notice for early withdrawals.

The current featured rate is 4.75% p.a. for an 8-month term (at maturity interest paid). However, it's important to note that this rate is only available for investments between $5,000 and $1,999,999, and interest is paid at maturity.

With the Advance Notice Term Deposit, you’ll get a wide range of terms to choose from. They start as short as 7 days to as long as 60 months (5 years), providing flexibility to match various savings goals. You’ll also be able to choose how frequently interest is paid (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annually on selected terms), although keep in mind that this will affect the interest you receive.

As with most term deposits, there are no account service fees, which is a plus. However, you should be aware of the fees associated with early withdrawals, even with the 31-day notice period.

FAQs

Can I withdraw my money before the term ends?

Yes, but you need to provide 31 days' notice for early withdrawals. This notice period is a feature of the Advance Notice Term Deposit and is part of how ANZ can offer potentially higher rates. Early withdrawal fees will apply.

Is my money safe with ANZ?

Yes, it is safe. Not only is ANZ one of the big four banks, but it is also an authorised deposit-taking institution. This means that deposits up to $250,000 per account holder are protected under the Australian Government's Financial Claims Scheme.
