GIO home and contents insurance - worth it.
GIO are a good solid insurance company! I've had house and contents insurance with them for more than 10 years, and I at present see no reason to change from the current arrangement. They allow you to tailor your cover to your own particular circumstances, which suits me. They also have a proven reputation. I guess the disadvantage is the price of the premiums, they have gone up with inflation, like everything else in our economy.

Does not value loyal customers
The coverage was good and it could be tailored. I had a multi policy with home & contents, car, and caravan and had never made a claim in the 12 years I had the policies. My home & contents insurance went up 53% recently. When I spoke to them about the increase, they didn't make any offers to try and keep me. I shopped around and subsequently took my insurance needs elsewhere.

Thieves that never pay a claim
Gio will do absolutely anything to avoid paying a claim. Our property was 40cm underwater in 2022 floods, our fibreglass pool popped out of the ground and cracked down the middle during the flood, despite photos and expert reports from 3rd party geo technical engineers confirming without doubt that it occured as a result of the flood, they still refused our claim. We have 9 different insurance policies with GIO and have been with them for 15years plus, they are thieves. Avoid at all costs.

Incompetent and delayed claims handling
Unorganised claims department that makes many errors then avoid you and delay the claim. They then try to cover up the errors and refuse to discuss. Errors on reports. Errors when they do communicate. Don’t supply reports. Slow to assess and also to begin work. Twist the truth. Use their pool of panel builders. From experience they use subcontractors who are unskilled and not only do they not fix the issue, but cause further damage. GIO do not support you after this. They just try work their way out of it while gaslighting you. They allow crooks aka contractors to charge insane prices for work that isn’t completed. I’d love to show the shareholders how much has been wasted and mismanaged. Premiums are skyrocketing and claims department is incompetent. I can’t believe how GIO treat people during stressful claims and how they delay for significant periods. I don’t know what has happened to this company but it’s frightening and illegal what they do.

However, 80% of the time, it feels like navigating a labyrinth of disappointment. Their coverage options are restrictive and can be frustratingly inflexible. Claim processing is slow and cumbersome, and the fine print often conceals unpleasant surprises that may leave you feeling betrayed. The premiums can be steep, making it challenging for those on a budget to obtain satisfactory coverage. While GIO's digital platform is user-friendly, it doesn't compensate for the shortcomings in policy offerings and overall value. Those interested in GIO Home Insurance should carefully evaluate their options, deciphering the fine print and seeking alternatives that better cater to their requirements.

GIO will make you work for any claims.
GIO will do everything they can to weasel out of a claim. If you ever make a claim be sure to escalate because they'll use every trick in the book to deny you. It took me 2 months to battle them before they finally agreed to pay up. They're underwritten by Suncorp Insurance. Not impressed.
