Who’s driving away with the top car insurance ratings in the Mozo People’s Choice Awards?

Get pumped for the 2020 Mozo People’s Choice Awards. We’ve asked Australians to rate their banking, insurance and household service providers, and give serious snaps to the best of the bunch.

For the car insurance critique, 2,792 Aussies raced to the polls in March and assessed 49 providers. They rated providers based on their experiences of customer service and overall satisfaction, how smooth and effective sign-up and claims processes are, how much they trust the provider to follow-through on promises, and whether or not they’d recommend an insurer to someone else.

While Mozo’s in-house specialists crown winners in the Mozo Experts Choice Awards, this is an opportunity for everyday Aussies who use insurers to have their say. So, whether your car insurer has been driving you mad or helped you out of a tight spot recently, it could pay to compare your policy against these top-rated providers. Here are just a few of the winners in the Mozo People’s Choice Car Insurance Awards.

RAC

The people have spoken, and they’ve awarded RAC top honours across all six assessment criteria. From providing outstanding customer service virtually and in person, to honouring claims at crunch time, it seems RAC's customers are more than satisfied across the board.

The Western Australia-based provider is a membership organisation, meaning they don’t cater to shareholders. The company also contributes to extensive community development initiatives in WA. These include road safety education programs and transport infrastructure development, plus retail discounts and special deals offered to members.

Fab feature: If you take out RAC Comprehensive Car Insurance and drive a low emissions car, you can receive up to a 25% discount on your premium.

Shannons

Are you all about sparkling vintage interiors and one-of-a-kind original alloys? You might want to roll on over to Shannons. They love hotrods and classic vintage motors just as much as you do, and they specialise in comprehensive insurance for these kinds of four-wheeled family members.

Their customers clearly trust their expertise. Shannons is repping in five car insurance award categories, reflecting fair treatment throughout the customer experience, follow-through on policy promises, and that customers are passing on positive reviews to other motorheads.

Fab feature: If you’ve been tinkering with your ride for customised coolness, Shannons Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance lets you insure those modifications, so long as you put it all in writing when applying for coverage.

Apia

If you’ve been scooting around the roads for a few decades now, Apia might be your preferred provider. Apia stands for Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency, and they offer car, caravan, boat and home insurance, with a special focus on Aussies over 50.

They’ve got motorists sorted from third-party to comprehensive insurance, and if you have spent a few more years on the road, you could see some nifty savings. Since they’ve scooped up awards in four categories, it’s clear their experienced customers value this specialised service.

Fab feature: If you’re over 50 and take out Apia Comprehensive Car Insurance, you could snag a cheaper premium. Similarly, if you don’t drive very often (less than 20,000km per year) you could receive a discount on the comprehensive policy.

RAA

When you’ve been providing car insurance for well over 100 years, you’re bound to mould your company into something special. And with three top gongs across the People’s Choice Car Insurance Awards, it looks like RAA’s hard work is paying off.

This independently owned South Australian provider underwrites its own car insurance policies, so they know their stuff. You can personalise cover to suit your needs, and are rewarded for the years you spend with the company.

Fab feature: There are some spicy discounts to be had when you maintain an RAA Comprehensive Car Insurance policy. Customers can save 10% on their premiums by taking out three or more insurance policies, on top of a 10% discount for seniors and other no-claims discounts.

Beyond these multi-award-winners, Youi, RACQ, Suncorp Insurance, RACT and CGU also saw wins across the car insurance categories. It seems Youi upheld its pledge to put you, the customer, at the centre of everything, taking out wins for customer service and overall satisfaction. Meanwhile, RACQ was a frontrunner in trust and customer recommendations, and sat alongside Suncorp Insurance in the claims experience category.
