185 policies compared to find Australia’s Best Value & Highest Quality Pet Insurers

Today leading financial comparison site Mozo is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Pet Insurance, highlighting the best value and highest quality pet insurance policies and providers for pet parents in Australia.

Mozo experts reviewed 185 different pet insurance policies from 32 insurers, looking at both dogs and cats, young and old, across different breeds to find the most affordable policies and the policies with the best benefits regardless of price.

Peter Marshall, Mozo Experts Choice Awards Judge, commented on the importance of these awards, stressing that, “Pet insurance policies can be difficult to compare due to the complexities in the various types of policies available, the sheer number of insurers on the market, and because each policy is priced based on a pet’s risk profile.”

Mozo's assessment of value aimed to find the most affordable policies, so experts gathered a range of online quotes covering various ages for both cats and dogs. As breed can be a significant pricing factor for dogs, quotes were gathered for several common dog breeds, including border collies and staffies, as well as pedigree and non-pedigree cats.

To compare prices, the judges adjusted premiums based on benefit percentage, excess amount, and first-year discounts, while excluding policies with low annual benefit limits or restrictive sub-limits, and ranked the quotes gathered to find which pet insurers offered the most affordable policies. The best were awarded as the winners of the Exceptional Value Pet Insurance category.

Australia’s Best Quality Pet Insurers

In assessing Exceptional Quality, Mozo’s experts focused on the richness of benefits and coverage flexibility of the 185 pet insurance policies, without considering cost. To determine the best quality policies and providers, benefit percentages, excess options, annual benefit limits, and coverage for essential treatments and services were analysed.

The rigorous process included comprehensive reviews of each policy's generosity in covering critical conditions such as tick paralysis, hip surgery and replacement, dental care, MRI scans, and emergency boarding. Policies were scrutinised for their ability to provide robust protection across a range of scenarios, and the providers that excelled in delivering superior overall benefits and comprehensive care for pets were named the winners of the Exceptional Quality category.
