Frequently Asked Questions about Greater Bank credit cards

How many interest free days will I get with a Greater Bank credit card?

You’ll get a leisurely 55 day interest free period to pay off purchases made with your Greater Bank credit card.

What fees might I be charged?

The Greater Bank credit card is a low fee offering, so the annual fee is not a huge hurdle, but there are a few other fees to be aware of, including foreign exchange and additional cardholder fees.

Can I use my Greater Bank credit card for a balance transfer?

If you want to take advantage of a great balance transfer deal to help you manage your credit card balance, then you can apply to do so with your Greater Bank credit card. You’ll have to talk to a Greater representative to set the balance transfer up, and remember that when you apply, you’ll need a recent copy of a credit card statement showing the balance you want to transfer.

What rewards does a Greater Bank credit card offer?

This credit card is a low maintenance option - and as such, it’s stress-free, but also comes without many of the added bonuses you might enjoy with other cards, including a rewards program. You won’t earn points at all - so if you’re after those frequent flyer miles you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Can I use contactless payment with my Greater Bank credit card?

Absolutely! Greater Bank’s credit card works on the VISA network, which will allow you to use payWave as a convenient way to pay for purchases under $100.

You can also sign up for VISA Checkout, which streamlines your online payments so all your details are saved across your devices. It makes online shopping even quicker and easier - although that could be a bad thing for some of the shopaholics out there!

Can I use my Greater Bank credit card while I’m travelling overseas?

Another good thing about the VISA network is that it’s accepted in hundreds of places all over the world - which means so is your Greater Bank credit card. But keep in mind the foreign transaction fees you may wind up paying if you flash the plastic overseas, and consider opting for other travel money solutions, like a prepaid travel card.

What kind of insurance options does my Greater Bank credit card offer?

Greater Bank’s credit card is an option offering simplicity and ease of use. Unfortunately, this means it lacks a lot of the perks of other credit cards, including complimentary insurances, like travel insurance, purchase protection and extended warranty. If these are important to you when choosing a credit card, you may have to look elsewhere.

What do I do if I lose my card or am the victim of credit card fraud?

Your first step should always be to let Greater Bank know as soon as you realise your credit card is lost or stolen.
To prevent credit card fraud you should practice safe credit card use, which includes not writing your PIN down or giving it to anyone else, being wary of where and when you use your card and checking over statements for transactions you don’t remember making. You can also minimise risk by using Verified by VISA when shopping online.

Simplicity has been the key factor in Greater Bank’s approach to credit cards so far, and applying is no different.

There are a few basic things you can’t get around when applying for a Greater Bank credit card. You’ll have to:

  • be 18 years or over
  • be a permanent  resident of Australian
  • live in either NSW, QLD or ACT
  • have a regular income and good credit history

You also need to have some documentation when you apply, including:

  • Details of your income, plus 2 recent payslips
  • If you’re self-employed, bring along the Notice of Assessments from the ATO that you’ve received in the last two years
  • Details about any other financial responsibilities you have - like loan repayments, other credit or store cards
  • A copy of current photo I.D (like a driver’s license or passport.)

Then, you can either pop into a Greater Bank branch or complete an application online.
