Origin Energy, AGL, EnergyAustralia win big on solar, gas and small business energy plans in Mozo Experts Choice Awards
Shopping around for the right energy plan isn’t easy - especially when you’re wading through tons of jargon and you’ve got too many options to pick from. That’s why, at the end of the day, it can be reassuring to know the biggest brands have your back with competitive prices.
The 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Energy Awards reveal Australia’s three energy giants are certainly pulling their weight in some areas, offering top deals to solar-savvy households and small businesses.
Origin Energy, AGL and EnergyAustralia snatched up a total of 9 Mozo Experts Choice Awards this year, winning in categories for gas, small business and solar-friendly electricity across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory.
EnergyAustralia took the largest portion of the pie with 5 Mozo Experts Choice Energy Awards, while Origin Energy and AGL won 2 awards each.
“It’s really good to see the big guys not just relying on their market dominance and the awareness around their brands, and actually offering good prices to consumers,” Mozo’s expert judge, Peter Marshall said.
“While they didn’t come out on top for the main residential electricity awards, their wins show they're being competitive in a few of the smaller markets.”
“So for people looking for products in areas such as gas, solar and small business, they shouldn’t discount the possibility that the big guys might have some of the best rates around for those options.”
Why did the Big 3 win?
According to Mozo’s energy expert, Nathan Warne, the big three providers’ wins in the smaller categories rather than the standard ones show they’re channelling energy into engaging a wider range of customers - beyond your everyday household.
“The Big 3 try to be present in every market - not just the main ones,” Warne said.
“Their wins suggest they’ve set their sights on new customers or the ones who might switch over to somewhere else - the savvy bunch who pay more attention to their electricity and energy usage.”
