Online lender loans.com.au has announced their new green home loans, helping pave the way for more green finance options in Australia.

After their success with helping people finance eco-friendly cars with the green car loan discount in 2018, loans.com.au wants to continue to make a positive impact to the environment by providing discounts to people with energy-efficient homes.

“We’ve seen a shift in recent years - now consumers are looking for more sustainable options, and that extends to their finance. We’ve been proactive in creating products which meet the needs of the future and ensuring our lending leads the way on sustainability,” Marie Mortimer, loans.com.au managing director.

The new discounted rates are for green construction loans and owner-occupied green home loans. Borrowers building their own green homes may receive up to a 1.59% discount off loans.com.au standard rate (2.08% p.a. [2.39% p.a. comparison*] with the discount applied) for the first five years of the loan as long as the home has at least a 7-star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) rating.

Green home buyers who are looking to use loans.com.au as their lender may receive up to a 0.4% discount on newly built homes in the last 12 months that have at least a 7-star NatHERS rating.

“Our green construction loan and green home loan will save Australian families thousands of dollars and reward them for choosing to build or buy a more environmentally friendly energy-efficient home,” Mortimer said.

“The savings you get on your home loan by choosing to go green could easily cover any costs of opting for an environmentally friendly home.”

If you are part of the growing number of Australians who want to make their homes more sustainable to help combat climate change, you may qualify for a number of green home loans available in the Australian market.
