Mozo Review   ANZ Student Access Advantage Review

Last updated: 11 January 2019.

What's hot:
  • $0 account fee for students

  • Unlimited free transaction over the phone, in branch or online

  • Customisable card

What's not:
  • 3% foreign exchange commission

Mozo snapshot:

Bank accounts are a great way to keep your money secure, while still being easily accessible for everyday spending. The ANZ Student Access Advantage account does just that, and comes with a $0 account fee for students. You’ll also be able to use your debit card to make withdrawals at overseas ATMs, but if you do, be aware of the $5 ATM fee and 3% foreign exchange commission.

Key features:

For current ANZ customers who are students, or students who are considering becoming an ANZ customer, an ANZ Student Access Advantage account might be just what you need. The main benefit of the ANZ Student Access Advantage account is the $0 account fee. However, to be eligible, you’ll need to be a full time student and show a valid student card to an ANZ representative at the beginning of each year.

Arguably one of the coolest aspects of the ANZ Student Access Advantage account is the power to customise your card with an image of your choice, for free. This let’s you deck out your card with a cute picture of a cat, your favourite Avenger or hey, why not both?

There’s no minimum account balance required to open an account and if you have $50,000 - $99,999 in the account you’ll earn 0.01%, while having over $100,000 will earn 0.02% interest. Although if you have close to $50,000 then you should probably consider putting into a savings account instead, for a better return on your money.

If you’re travelling internationally you’ll still be able to use your debit card. Although you’ll be hit with not just a $5 ATM fee, but also a 3% foreign exchange commission.

Who it's good for:

In short, students. As you won’t have to pay an account fee, getting this account over the standard ANZ Access Advantage account, while save you $5 a month.

Any catches?

While being able to withdraw money from international ATMs can certainly be helpful while you’re on holiday or exchange, the 3% foreign exchange commission, along with the $5 overseas ATM fee means that each withdrawal could be a little costly.

I like Anz bank because of the amount of stores they have around shopping centers and the easiness of internet banking. The Pro's of this bank are that you are always close to a branch or ATM, the customer service representatives are always lovely and internet banking has a very easy layout. The cons are there are no perks for students other than not paying the monthly fee, cards seem to take a while to arrive (i've been waiting 3 weeks) and always having to set up a reusable account when you pay someone online, instead of just being able to do a one off without saving it.
