What are the Mozo Experts Choice Awards?

Now in their sixth year, the Mozo Experts Choice Awards are here to showcase the deposit products that our experts have determined to offer the best value to Australians.

For the 2019 bank account awards, Mozo’s money experts compared bank accounts from 70 financial institutions based on data contained in Mozo’s product database, looking at a range of features they judged to be key to a great account.

Everyone has different needs in their day-to-day banking, so comparing and finding the right fit is vital. For details on how we crunched the numbers and determined the award winners see our methodology report.

Everyday Bank of The Year

These days, Australians want more from their day to day banking than a fee-free account, and the 2019 Everyday Bank of the Year, ING, really packs a punch when it comes to added value. ATM fee rebates and free overseas transactions are just the start. ING’s full feature and easy to use mobile banking app also sets it a cut above the rest. After the judges had assessed the best everyday accounts and the best mobile apps, they realised that only one bank was a winner in both categories: ING.

Exceptional Everyday Account

To be counted among Australia’s best everyday transaction accounts of 2019, an account must not charge any account, EFTPOS or ATM fees if you’re using it as your regular account. Beyond that, it also needs to offer customers exceptional extra value like reward points, a 0% foreign exchange margin, platinum benefits or higher than average interest.

Citi launched the Global Currency Account in 2018. It’s a product that not only offers fee free banking, but also the ability to pre-purchase foreign currencies at Citi’s exchange rates and keep it in the account for use when shopping or travelling overseas. Customers can also make overseas purchases without having pre-purchased foreign currency, making this account unique in allowing customers flexibility in managing exchange rates.

Student Bank Account

When you’re studying to shape the future, you don’t want a bank account that’s stuck in the past. But fee free student banking is no longer enough to be exceptional, so to find the cream of the crop and crown the winners in this category, our experts identified no-fee Student Bank Accounts that also offer three of the most popular payment options around, PayID, ApplePay and GooglePay.
