Pets are an important member of any family, and just like us humans, they occasionally fall ill or get into accidents. So, whether your furry friend is canine or feline, owners may want to consider taking out a pet insurance policy to minimise vet bill stress.

Every year Mozo’s Expert Judges analyse a range of pet insurance policies to determine which options offer the best value and highest quality cover for Australian pets. These policies are then crowned in the Mozo Experts Choice Pet Insurance Awards.

“We compared hundreds of quotes for different types and ages of cats and dogs based on a predetermined criteria that helped us identify the best of the best,” Mozo Experts Choice Awards Judge Peter Marshall said.

“Finding a policy for your pet may be a bit daunting, especially when policy features and costs can change depending on your pet’s breed. We wanted to examine each feature head-to-head, across a range of animal breeds to help Australians find the best value cover, and award those providers offering the best pet insurance in 2021.”

If you’re looking to insure your pet or after a better deal on your existing policy, read up on a few of the Mozo Experts Choice Award-winners^ below.

The Best State-Based Pet Insurance Providers

This year, Mozo’s experts wanted to highlight exceptional regional brands in the pet insurance industry. Both these providers also qualified for awards in additional categories like Exceptional Value and Exceptional Quality.

The top state-based pet insurance providers are:

  • Queensland’s Best Pet Insurance - RACQ
  • WA’s Best Pet Insurance - RAC

Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Exceptional Value Pet Insurance

For the Exceptional Value Awards^, Mozo’s team of expert analysts gathered a range of online quotes to calculate which insurance providers offer the most affordable policies for a given level of cover. This takes into account how breed and age can change coverage pricing.

Each quote was adjusted to allow for different benefit percentages and ranked in order from cheapest to most expensive for different breeds and ages. The Judges allotted points based on how often each insurance provider was among the the most affordable for the features offered, and gave awards to the products that scored in the top for each comparison.

Exceptional Value Accident Cover Pet Insurance

One policy stood out from the competition when it came to how much potential benefit could be delivered by each dollar spent on premiums. This year, 1300 Insurance took home the award for Exceptional Value Accident Cover Pet Insurance^.

Exceptional Value Accident & Illness Pet Insurance

In this category, Mozo’s Expert Judges investigated how much an insurance company will pay out on a claim for a range of quotes to find which ones offered the best overall value.

To be considered for an award, each product had to meet a minimum criteria with the most affordable policies for different levels of cover considered. This criteria takes into account how coverage pricing can change due to a pet’s breed and age.

Out of all the products, five stood out for their competitive pricing without sacrificing what they covered.

Exceptional Value Comprehensive Pet Insurance

Using the same methodology as other exceptional value awards, our judges gathered a range of quotes to identify which insurance companies offered policies with the best overall value for both cats and dogs.

The judges were able to identify five comprehensive products that were typically amongst the most affordable and provided good overall benefits.

Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Exceptional Quality Pet Insurance

To identify the highest quality pet insurance, our Expert Judges were on the lookout for policies with the most generous benefits and inclusions. This included things across a range of areas such as dental cover, routine care cover, treatment for tick paralysis, flexible excess options and generous benefit limits.

There were 131 policies from 32 insurance companies assessed for this award category, with these seven chosen as the final winners for their top-quality coverage:
