When a bank is voted as having Australia's best bank accounts three years in a row in the Mozo People's Choice Awards, you know they must be doing something right - especially when the Orange Everyday account was also named a 2020 Mozo Experts Choice Award winner for best Exceptional Everyday Account and a 2019 winner for best Travel Debit Card

The reason that so many Aussies are such big fans of the ING Everyday Orange bank account is because it's big on convenience and small on fees and charges. This account has no account fees and as long as you deposit at least $1000 a month into your account (from an external bank account) and make at least 5 card purchases each month using your ING debit card then you won't have to pay any ATM fees in Australia or overseas!

Key features

ING is an online-only bank, so there's no branch access but who needs it with online banking, 24-hour phone banking, BPAY and free ATMs?

With the Orange Everyday account, you can use any ATM in Australia or overseas for free (if you deposit at least $1,000 into your ING account each month from an external bank account, and make at least 5 purchases using your ING debit or credit card each month) so you don't have to worry about trekking across town looking for an ATM.

If you meet the above conditions, you can also spend on your card while overseas without paying an international transaction fee - making this a great pick for savvy travellers.

There's also no minimum opening deposit requirement and no monthly account fees to pay, so this account get's the budget-friendly tick of approval - But keep in mind you won't earn any money either. Like most transaction accounts the ING Orange Everyday account doesn't pay any interest.

The Orange Everyday bank account comes with a VISA debit card (with PayWave), giving you the shopping freedom of a credit card without the credit maintenance worries.

You also have the option to switch on the everyday round-up feature, where purchases you make on your card are rounded up to either $1 or $5, which are then deposited into an ING Savings Maximiser, Mortgage Simplifier or Orange Advantage accounts.

You'll also be able to access your ING Orange Everyday account and heap of other ING products through the ING banking app which actually won an Excellent Banking App Award in the 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Awards.

Who is it good for

If you're an Australian who's sick of being charged high ATM fees in Australia and abroad then this budget-friendly account could be the one for you!

Any catches

You won't earn any interest on your money in the ING Everyday Orange, so you might be better off keeping your savings in a high-interest savings account and transferring cash over as you need it.

A user friendly, accessible everyday account

The best thing about my Orange everyday account is the ease of initial set up and access. I also love the round up feature for saving money. The only downside is not being able to deposit cash quite as easily as with banks with lots of ATMs around the place.

    Easy to use.

I would prefer if ING worked faster and smarter at bringing in 100% ethical and renewable energy investments. Round ups so money goes into savings is an excellent idea. There's a lot of competition. I'm looking at other places to put my money that are better for the environment and world we live in.

Fantastic bank, 10 out of 10!

We love ING! They make signing up/transferring etc so easy. The phone assist staff have always been extremely helpful and friendly and willing to spend time explaining. There are no branches so some people might be put off by that but it’s so convenient over the phone and the staff are helpful and easy to understand.

    The “BANK” to the future

I have been with ING for 3-4 years now and I have had no problems. Certain banks still charge monthly fees but ING doesn’t. I can use my card worldwide without being charged high fees. Now I have opened up a Savings Maximiser and set it to round up to $5 so if I bought a coffee for $3.50 it will round that transaction to $5.00 but the remaining $1.50 is transferred into your savings maximiser! Pros: It saves you a lot of money - for the above to work you must have $1000 in your bank account each month. Cons: There is none for me to provide!
