With travel well and truly back on the cards, getting the right travel insurance for the right price is more important than ever. For Australians looking for a basic level of cover at the lowest cost, the winners in this category are a clear embodiment of this. Those awarded offered unlimited medical cover and at least $2,000 cover for both luggage and cancellation related claims. We assessed policies for eight key travel destinations and awarded those that offered the best value on average.

If you’re someone who travels frequently, whether for business or pleasure, and you are looking for the best value annual policy, this is the place to begin your search. Our judges reviewed policies that offered unlimited medical cover, $7,500 luggage and $15,000 cancellation cover for trips up to 30 days each.
Medibank, NRMA, and Webjet
If avoiding a costly overseas medical bill is your main concern, Medical Only coverage might be a suitable cover option. To be considered in this category, a policy just had to offer unlimited medical cover. The following three policies were the most exceptional value on average over eight destinations.

Easy Travel Insurance
Not all travel insurance policies will cover you if you’re on the open ocean so you’ll need to get cruise cover for peace of mind. The criteria for this award included unlimited medical cover, $7,500 luggage cover and $15,000 cancellation cover.
Allianz, Qantas, Worldcare, and Zoom
With many travel insurance policies there’s an extra charge if you want to be covered for snow activities. To qualify for this award, policies had to include unlimited medical cover, and at least $7,500 of luggage cover and $15,000 cancellation cover. The cost assessment was based on a family of four travelling to New Zealand for two weeks.
Australia Post, NRMA, and Tick Travel Insurance
Everyone has different priorities and budgets, and for some people knowing they have the highest level of cover possible is paramount when travelling internationally and are prepared to pay more for that cover. That’s why for this category our Judges compared a wide range of cover levels and features of travel insurance policies to find those that offer the most generous cover irrespective of price.

If you’re a frequent traveller, whether it be for personal or business purposes, a multi-trip travel insurance policy option might be a cost-effective way of ensuring you’re covered for every trip you take. For the Exceptional Quality Award, the judges assessed cover levels and inclusions for multi-trip policies and identified those that offer the best combination of generous cover limits, cover for a range of pre-existing medical conditions, and activities allowed.

For the 2023 Travel Insurance Awards we only included travel insurance policies that included cover for COVID-19 medical expenses. In carrying out the Mozo Experts Choice Awards for Travel Insurance 2023, 110 international travel insurance policies from 43 different insurance companies met this criteria.
Any provider we review must be available at the time of our analysis and any offers included must be available to the general public on the provider’s website.
