Families come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes family members are four-legged furry rascals that like to scratch the couch. Even with their occasional mischief Australians still love their pets and are willing to spend more money on spoiling their pets than themselves.

The average Aussie pet owner spends an average of $309 a month on their furry friends, Afterpay research found. Overall, pet owners are very dedicated to their small friends and more than half make personal sacrifices to ensure they can afford to give their pet the best life.

“The majority (81%) of Aussie pet owners say that their pet is a member of their family, and almost half (42%) admitting they love going above and beyond for their pet,” says Afterpay.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, research found that having a pet has helped people with their mental and physical wellbeing. Pets are important to people’s lives, which is why these little family members are given all the love and attention they deserve.

Being such an important part of the family, it would be devastating to lose them in an accident. That’s why it is important to get pet insurance for your cuddly members of the family.
