Absolute rubbish!

My father has 4 policies with RACV, including home and contents and coverage for his and my mother's cars. He is a very long time and loyal customer despite never having a claim. Our house got broken into, the thieves stoll his car keys and took off with his car. A claim was made as well as the police being involved and the car was found a few days later. RACV never contacted my father once during the process to let him know about any of the proceedings, claim status, or what he was entitled to during the whole claim process. Instead my father had to ring and be left in a queue to get any information from them. His cover included a courtesy car which RACV never told him about, which he only learnt about by accident after the 3rd call after being placed in a 15 minute queue (this is a week into the claim). They finally assessed that the car was a write off and a long story short, after many stressful calls and much time from my father, leaving him in a panic (he's 70 years old). They offered him 1/3rd of the value of what he expected to receive as "market value" for his vehicle. After paying 32,000 for he's 2010 C class Mercedes which he bought 2nd hand a few years back, their accessor was pulling up all these old car sales add's where the vehicle's were delisted for pathetic prices and are the adds for which are not available to the general public. He was emailing my father and calling him to argue that his fully functional 2010 ( Excellent condition) C class turbo-diesel, Mercedes Benz was worth no more than $8800. My father just spent $7000 dollars to get the computer and electrics serviced and tuned before it was stolen btw. This has caused absolute joke of an experience has caused my Father and mother considerable stress and has affected their mental and physical well being. My father payed $116 as premium for this policy and will owe a 700 excess and RACV have just trampled all over him and left us all stunned how terrible this joke of a policy is and their customer service is an absolute joke. How they can compete with the likes of AAMI (who provided a quote with a market value of $13,500 for my father's exact car just now)and or any other insurance provider with this rubbish is beyond me entirely. I strongly recommend anyone interested to avoid RACV at all costs! They are expensive and when it comes to claims, they are cheap skates and will stop at nothing to save money in every department of their business. Do yourself a favour and have nothing to do with them!

Good price, no issues yet

We switched to RACV because it was cheaper than the insurer we were with, despite a lot of negative reviews surrounding the time it takes to get a claim paid out. Haven't yet had to make a claim and hopefully won't have to find out if that reputation is true.

RACV IS THE WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVERY. WAITING ON THE PHONE FOR 17 HOURS NO ANSWER, ESCALATED TO DI IN MEMBER COMPLAINTS, SHE CANNOT ASSIST AS SHE IS NOT IN CLAIMS. I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR 32 YEARS AND YOU HAVE RIPPED ME OFF. I PAY $230 A MONTH WHEN EVERYONE I SPEAK TO PAYS $130 A MONTH. RACV AND IAG ARE CROOKS. DO NOT INSURE WITH THEM. THEY DO NOT EVEN FALL UNDER REGULATORS AS THEY ARE NOT PART OF CODE OF CONDUCT WHICH APPLIES TO ALL OF THE OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Terrible all round

1. I was with RACV for many years, had to make a claim for a not at fault and they refused to cover all damage from the incident. 2. Premiums keep going up, started at $130 a month then to $180 per month, then to $190 per months, then wanted to go up to $230 per month (no claims made between 180-230). I quickly cancelled and they still charged me an extra month. 3. I brushed passed a car and accidentally made an approx 15cm scratch with my handbag, not a very deep scratch. Person made a claim a month later with RACV and they are now trying to charge me $2,343.64 RACV is price gouging and money hungry.

Terrible service, inability to escalate complaint

Claims handling is beyond appalling. Paid extra for choice of repairer. Claim has been sitting with assessor team for 22 business days. 6 follow up calls including 2 to register a complaint. No ability to speak to a line 2 escalation team, supervisor or complaints team. Appalling customer service. Now feel like I'm being held to ransome by my insurer. Will be moving my 4 policies to another provider at the conclusion of the claim. Particarly upsetting because this is a not at fault claim which RACV will recoup all monies from the at fault third party.

Useless when you need it

Unable to replace a damaged bumper bar in a timely manner. I had to get it fixed myself at my own cost as they had no approved repairers in the area. Left me stranded. No panel beaters in the area will work for them and claims person could not tell me where they would be taking my car while they found a repairer and expected me to leave my car with luggage and pets on the side of a country road and walk 50kms topics up a hire car. Very lengthy claims process, person had no idea about anything. Really wasn't worth paying for the cover if you can't use it when needed. RACV do not care about their customers, not even if you e been with them for 40+ years. A month after the event I still did not get a quote from their assessors.
