Knowing how to use your interest free days can save you a bundle on credit card interest. With a BankSA credit card, you’ll have 55 days to pay off your balance before being charged interest. But keep in mind, these 55 days start at the beginning of your statement cycle, and not when you make a purchase.
There are a few guaranteed fees you should plan for when using a BankSA credit card for your spending. These include:
The annual fee (on all cards except the no annual fee option, surprisingly enough.)
Cash advance fees
Foreign exchange fees
Need to manage an existing credit card balance? A balance transfer deal could be just the thing you need to keep your spending on track and get rid of lingering credit card debts.
You can use any BankSA credit card for a balance transfer, although keep in mind that different cards offer different 0% interest periods. That’s important, because when this period runs out, you’ll be charged interest on any remaining balance at the much higher cash advance rate. So make sure that you know how long you have to pay off your transferred balance and have a plan in place to pay back everything you owe in the allotted time.
All the BankSA credit card offerings run on the VISA network, which means for small shops under $100, you can use payWave to make contactless payments.
Another good thing about your BankSA credit card running on the VISA network is that it’s accepted wherever in the world VISA is - so pretty much anywhere. Just keep in mind the foreign transaction fees before you go shopping up a storm.
If you’re opting for a platinum or signature card, don’t forget to check out your complimentary credit card travel insurance as well!
You can choose between a rewards card, so you can redeem points for a bunch of cool things like retail products, gift vouchers and travel through the BankSA Amplify Rewards Program, or a Qantas card, which will convert your rewards points straight into your Qantas frequent flyers account.
Check out the table below to see how many points you’ll earn per $1 you spend on each rewards card on offer:
Rewards | Rewards | Qantas | Qantas | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Aus | Overseas | Aus | Overseas | |
Classic | 1 | 0.5 | ||
Platinum | 1 | 2 | 0.5 | 1 |
Signature | 1.5 | 3 | 0.75 | 1.5 |
Keep in mind that platinum and signature cardholders will also be able to cash in on perks like complimentary insurance cover, concierge service and exclusive offers and events.
Opting for a premium credit card from BankSA? You’ll have access to a range of complimentary insurance covers along with your card, including:
Overseas travel insurance (for people up to 80 years old)
Purchase security insurance
Extended warranty insurance
If you’re going for the creme de la creme, a signature card, you’ll enjoy even more cover, including extras like:
Price guarantee cover
Interstate flight inconvenience insurance
Rental vehicle excess insurance in Australia
Transit accident insurance

BankSA has been my bank of choice for over 30 years. The staff are friendly and helpful and their products are competitive compared to other banks. In recent years, their rewards programs (Qantas points) has been a huge factor in keeping me as a customer. As per most banks, the one criticism I have is that their opening hours do not really reflect the needs of the average fulltime working person. While their website is very easy to navigate, some interactions need to occur in person, and it is hard to do this with the current opening hours.

Very lazy bank. I never recommend anyone to bank SA. I applied for a credit card and it's conditionally approved every time, they request the documents and they take 1 week to approved the documents. Poor communication. Poor customer service.
