EnergyAustralia offers NSW customers solar & battery system with no upfront cost

Rooftop solar panels on house

EnergyAustralia is offering eligible New South Wales homeowners a solar and battery energy system installed with no upfront costs, with the expense to be paid off as part of a seven-year plan.

EnergyAustralia is launching the Solar Home Bundle after a successful trial period, with Chief Customer Officer Mark Brownfield explaining “you’ll pay nothing upfront. Just pay your monthly energy bill over the seven-year plan. Then after that the system’s all yours - with no additional cost.”

Customers who take up the offer will be provided with a system that suits their household, including 5.67kW rooftop solar panels, an inverter and a 10.1kWh battery valued at around $15,000. EnergyAustralia covers the installation, and will also fix any issue that occurs during the term of your plan.

As part of the plan, customers will be charged 26.9c perkWh for electricity along with a 73c supply charge per day. EnergyAustralia guarantees that price won’t rise over the life of the contract, with energy delivered to the home coming from a mix of solar, battery and the grid.

For an average residential customer in the Ausgrid area using 3,900kWh per year on a flat tariff, the Solar Home Bundle is priced 5.5% below the reference price.

The battery installed as part of the bundle will also form part of EnergyAustralia’s Virtual Power Plant, which acts as a network of batteries helping to support the grid.

Customers interested in the program will need to meet certain eligibility criteria and own a home suitable for solar and battery installation. Eligibility criteria includes:

  • Own and have lived in your home for 6+ months
  • Households average daily energy usage 21kWh or more
  • Don’t already have a solar or battery system installed
  • Live in an eligible NSW postcode
  • Nobody at the address is dependent on life support equipment
  • Not a concession card holder or eligible for other government rebates required to be administered by an energy retailer
