Powerclub crowned Energy Retailer of the Year in Mozo Experts Choice Awards

From switching your lights on in the morning to baking up a storm on a Saturday afternoon, Aussies rely on their electricity provider more than they think, so it makes sense to want to have the best in business on your side. 

But with all the retailers floating around in the market, it can be difficult to find the one that not only ticks all the boxes, but can help you save on your annual bill. 

Until now. 

Mozo has today revealed the winners of the 2019 Mozo Experts Choice Energy Awards and are pleased to announce that new kid on the block, Powerclub, has taken out the title of Mozo Experts Choice Award Energy Retailer of the Year for New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. 

“Our awards acknowledge the retailers who we believe are worth considering for your home and to see a newcomer, like Powerclub perform outstandingly in this year’s awards is sure to give other retailers a run for their money,” said Mozo expert judge, Peter Marshall. 

Powerclub received a whopping 15 Mozo Experts Choice Awards, including eight awards in the small business categories. 

According to Mozo’s analysis, Powerclub proved to be one of the cheapest options available for Aussie households and small businesses across New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. 

Who is Powerclub? 

On a mission to make electricity prices affordable and as transparent as possible is Powerclub. Based in Melbourne, this not for profit retailer grants its members access to wholesale electricity prices and other services on a cost per use basis. 

And according to Powerclub, any excess profit they receive will be returned to members or invested back into the business. 

If you haven’t realised by now, Powerclub are not like your typical retailer - they do things a little differently to help give members more control over their electricity bills. 

Once customers sign up to a Powerclub electricity plan, they’ll receive a Powerbank account, which smooths out wholesale prices during market fluctuations by adding or subtracting the difference.  

There’s also a Powerwatch app that alerts members when wholesale prices are high and suggests ways to cut back on energy usage. 

However, Mozo’s energy expert, Nathan Warne, believes that Aussies should still do their homework before signing up to an award winning retailer. 

“While it’s great to see an innovative retailer like Powerclub take out this prestigious title, it doesn’t mean they’re the right fit for every household,” he said.

“Their Powerbank account system does have the potential for great savings, but you will need to be actively involved in its management.”
