Banking apps and fintech have changed the way in which we monitor our spending and savings habits in recent years.
For our 2022 Banking Apps and tech awards, our experts compared a long list of new and existing banking apps and technology to pick the winners in this coveted category. If you’re looking for a feature-packed and seamless banking app to help you manage your money and banking, then you’ve come to the right place to begin your search.
The ability to use an app to conduct most aspects of everyday banking has become increasingly important as we do more and more of our day to day tasks from our smartphones and tablets. For this category the Mozo judges looked at the key features available in 73 banking apps, then ranked them based on the importance of those features and awarded the apps which offered users the leading functionality.
Bank Australia, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA, Commonwealth Bank, St.George, and Up
Of the banking providers that won an Exceptional Everyday Account award, our experts determined Macquarie’s internet banking to have the leading array of unique features that stood out from the crowd.
For the second year in a row Frollo has taken out the award for Best Money Management App. Our experts considered all mobile applications that offered data connections to Australian banks and examined the cost, functionality, availability and effectiveness of each app assessed.
Sync accounts from a variety of different institutions in the one place safely with Open Banking. Frollo provides a range of tools and insights to help you track and manage your money.
Once again Up has been awarded for its ongoing product innovation, scooping the Banking Innovation Award for the second year in a row. For people who share their banking with another, the new 2Up feature has made it easier for people to earn a higher rate of interest. Instead of each person having to meet bonus rate conditions, with 2Up they can now share the load. As long as the requirement to make 5 purchases from the everyday account are met, all savings accounts held by both people get the bonus rate.
Now in their ninth year, the Mozo Experts Choice Awards present an opportunity to highlight products in the market we believe offer great value to Australians.
For the 2022 Banking App & Tech awards, we analysed 96 bank accounts issued by 86 Australian financial institutions.
“New apps are being launched all the time, and old apps given a facelift and improved as the banking world becomes more and more innovative," Mozo Experts Choice Awards Judge Peter Marshall said.
“The Mozo judges have spent many hours getting into the details of what the various banking apps allow you to do, and found those that offer the fullest set of features so you can manage your banking better wherever life takes you.”

We couldn’t have a name like the Mozo Experts Choice Awards without a dedicated and experienced team of product data analysts at the helm. Combined they have decades of experience behind them. Meet them below.
Running since 2014, the Mozo Experts Choice Awards recognise products that deliver exceptional value or benefits to consumers. See our Mozo Experts Choice Banking App & Tech Awards methodology report for more detailed information on how we performed product comparisons and determined the final award winners for 2022.
We aim to include most banking apps and tech providers in the market in the Mozo Experts Choice Awards. However, not every financial institution or product on the market will be included in our review. Any product we review must be available in the market at the time of our analysis.
Choosing the best banking app for you really depends on what you will use the app for. Is it to keep track of your spending, a fast way to transfer cash or simply an innovative way to bank? Compare the features from our winners list and find the app that could best be for you.
