Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits may apply to any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. These terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits could affect the level of benefits and cover available under any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. Please refer to the relevant Product Disclosure Statement and the Target Market Determination on the provider's website for further information before making any decisions about an insurance product.

Any information provided on this page should be considered a summary and general advice only. All information should be verified before purchase via the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What is included in an Aussietravelcover international travel insurance policy?

Aussietravelcover has two international travel insurance policies. These are the Basic and Top Plus policies. The main differences between the two levels of international cover will come down to the cover limits they offer for each benefit and the excess you will pay when claiming. The Top Plus policy also provides cover for domestic pet care, should your return home be delayed, which is not included on the Basic plan.

But remember: check Mozo’s data fields or the Aussietravelcover product disclosure statement (PDS) for details on pay-out limits and general exclusions for specific parts of their travel insurance policy across the range.

Aussietravelcover’s international policies include:

Does Aussietravelcover travel insurance have COVID-19 cover?

Aussietravelcover does provide some cover for COVID-19, however it only applies to travelling within Australia and New Zealand. One important condition to note is that if there’s a Smartraveller warning for your destination which is at the level of ‘Do not travel’ or ‘Reconsider your need to travel’, then no COVID-19 cover will be provided.

COVID-19 related benefits may include:

What other optional extras can I add to my Aussietravelcover policy?

Cruise pack

If you’re travelling on a cruise ship, then you’ll need to purchase cruise travel insurance on top of your policy. If you do not get this optional extra, then any claims related to any part of your journey on a cruise ship will not be covered. This includes domestic cruises on Australian waters.

Aussietravelcover’s cruise cover offers the following benefits:

Snow pack

Snow travel insurance is important if you’re hitting the slopes, and without it you may not be covered for any claims relating to snow sports. Aussietravelcover’s snow sports pack covers a variety of snow sports, many of which require licensed tour operators to accompany you (for example, with glacier skiing, lugeing, or off-piste skiing and snowboarding).

They do not cover racing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, stunts, or cross-country skiing and snowboarding outside of designated cross-country routes. If you’re just recreationally skiing or snowboarding, then the cover is simpler. So, make sure to read the fine print in the PDS if you’re unsure if your preferred snow sport is covered.

Aussietravelcover’s snow pack offers the following benefits:

Motorcycle, moped, and scooter pack

If you’re planning on hiring a motorcycle, moped, or scooter on your trip, then you’ll need to pay an extra premium in order to be covered for any claims relating to your time on two wheels. You’ll also need to hold a valid Australian licence for the class of vehicle you’re driving and wear a helmet. If you damage the vehicle or any property while riding it, or injure another person, Aussietravelcover will not pay for any expenses incurred.

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered under Aussietravelcover’s travel insurance?

Aussietravelcover includes cover for some pre-existing medical conditions. You will only be covered if your pre-existing condition is listed on your certificate of insurance, so make sure you disclose any conditions that you do have at the time of applying. With some of these medical conditions, there are additional criteria which you have to meet in order to be covered. So, make sure you read through the PDS to find any details which are relevant to you.

Some conditions which Aussietravelcover covers include:

To apply for cover of your pre-existing medical condition, contact Aussietravelcover’s medical assessment team on 1800 888 448.

What exclusions are there to look out for in an Aussietravelcover travel insurance policy?

If the country you are travelling to, or choose to remain in, has a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning issued by the Australian government’s Smartraveller website, then you will not be covered under Aussietravelcover’s policies regarding any COVID-19 claims.

A brief list of general exclusions also include claims relating to:

What do I do if there’s an emergency during my trip?

If there’s an emergency, contact Aussietravelcover’s 24 hour emergency assistance and claims line on:

How do I make a claim with Aussietravelcover travel insurance?

To make a claim, head online to Aussietravelcover’s claim portal (through insurance underwriter, Hollard) and follow the prompts, or call them on (02) 8883 7801. You will need to have supporting documents which are relevant to your claim, like receipts, police reports, or hospital invoices. Aussietravelcover will aim to notify you of the success of your claim within 10 working days.

Is it possible to cancel my Aussietravelcover travel insurance policy?

You can cancel your policy and may receive a full-refund within 14 days of purchasing it, provided you haven’t started your journey or intend to make a claim. If you want to cancel after the 14 day cooling-off period, then you unfortunately won’t receive a refund of your premium.

Not the worst but maybe not for the best.

No immediate offer of help when overseas but great potential to claim back at a later point so it's good overall but in an emergency not so great.
