Frequently asked questions about Go Insurance Travel Insurance

Q1. Who can apply for Go Insurance Travel Insurance?

Go Insurance policies are available to anyone under the age of 69 at the time of purchase, as long as you’re an Australian citizen, or have been residing in Australia for 3 months or longer before applying.
If you’re looking for travel insurance for someone over 69, check out Mozo’s guide to seniors travel insurance.

Q2. When’s the best time to purchase a travel insurance policy?

It’s usually best to buy your travel insurance policy as soon as you book your tickets, so you’ll be protected in case you have to cancel your travel plans. You can buy Go Insurance policies up to 12 months in advance of your trip.
But, if you’re not that organised, you can purchase a Go Insurance travel insurance policy right up to and including the day you leave for your trip. You can even buy your policy after you leave Australia, as long as you’re an Australian citizen and your trip begins and ends in Australia. You’ll be covered under a one-way policy if you buy after you leave.

Q3. Are pre-existing medical conditions covered under Go Insurance Travel Insurance?

Get ready for this - Go Insurance cover an incredible 118 pre-existing medical conditions, as long as you weren’t hospitalised for them in the past 24 months or sought medical attention for them within 90 days before buying your policy. The list includes cataracts, arthritis, glaucoma, tonsillitis and a huge range of others. Conditions not on the list aren’t covered, but you can still buy a policy without cover for that particular condition or problems arising from it.
Make sure you read the fine print of your PDS, as some of these conditions come with special exclusions, for example, high cholesterol and diabetes are both covered, but if you also have cardiovascular disease then you won’t be covered for either.

Q4. Can I extend my Go Insurance Travel Insurance policy while I am travelling?

You can contact Go Insurance to extend your cover on a single trip policy and subject to their agreement, you may be able to extend for up to 12 months from the date you originally left Australia. Under a multi trip policy, each trip is automatically covered up to 31 days, and if you need to extend (which you can do, to 45, 60 or 90 days), you will have to do that before you leave.

Q5. What options do I have to tailor my Go Insurance policy?

One of the great things about Go Insurance travel insurance policies is that you can tailor them to suit your trip. Not only can you add optional covers like snow, golf and water cover, but you also have the option to remove certain covers from your policy. Medical cover and personal liability are standard and can’t be removed, but others, like legal expenses or cancellation cover can be. This means that you’re only paying for the cover you actually need - for example, if you’re cruising around the pacific, you can remove rental car cover from your policy and maybe spend that money on souvenirs instead!

Q6. Is it possible to cancel my Go Insurance Travel Insurance policy?

You have a cooling off period of 14 days with Go Insurance travel insurance policies, during which you can cancel your cover for a full refund, as long as you haven’t started your trip or made a claim on the policy. Outside that cooling off period you aren’t entitled to any refund, but if you’d like to change your policy before you start your trip, for example if you want to remove one of the cover benefits you don’t think you’ll need, Go Insurance may offer you a partial refund.

Exclusions to look out for in Go Insurance Travel Insurance

The fine print is very important on your travel insurance policy and you need to be sure that you’ve read it and understand what is included or excluded from your cover. That way, you won’t find yourself left high and dry when and if you need to make a claim. Check out our guard for details on making travel insurance claims, but otherwise, here’s a quick checklist of some of the exclusions that apply to your Go Insurance policy.

Good claim process

The claim process was made easy and the claims personnel were efficient and friendly. One will never know how good an insurer is until you have to make a claim. I have used Go Insurance on two occasions and have found them to be very good.

Great premium & great service

I like this insurer because I was not slugged an extra premium for disclosing an existing medical condition.
