Amex cardholders pack your bags because the new American Express Sydney Airport Lounge has opened

Does anything say platinum credit card more than access to an exclusive airport lounge?  

It’s certainly up there, and for eligible Australian American Express cardholders that experience has just got a whole lot better with the opening of the new American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport today. 

The new lounge, which features complimentary food and drinks, high speed wifi, showers and a range of reading material among other perks, is three times bigger than the existing lounge and will be available to a number of eligible cardholders.

American Express - Explorer® Credit Card
  • 2 American Express complimentary lounge entries
  • Earn 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent (uncapped)
  • $400 yearly travel credit

Aussie globetrotters will be hard pressed to miss out on the extensive benefits of the Explorer Credit Card from Amercian Express. The card comes with an annual fee of $395 which is more than made up for with a $400 annual travel credit, not to mention the two complimentary lounge entries that can be used at either Sydney or Melbourne International Airport. The Explorer also features an uncapped earning rate of 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent, as well as up to 50,000 bonus Membership Rewards Points when you spend $3,000 or more within the first three months.

American Express - Qantas Ultimate Card
  • 2 complimentary American Express and 2 Qantas lounge entries each year
  • $450 annual Qantas travel credit
  • Up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points (conditions apply)

The Qantas Ultimate Card got its name for a reason, namely because it could be the ultimate companion for Aussie travellers. Cardholders can easily make up for $450 annual fee by taking advantage of the yearly $450 Qantas travel credit, complimentary access to American Express and Qantas lounges (2 entries per calendar year for each lounge) and the range of insurances on offer. The card even comes with a generous earn rate of 1.25 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases and a mammoth 120,000 bonus Qantas Points for cardholders who apply online and spend $4,500 in the first three months.

American Express - Velocity Platinum Card
  • 2 complimentary American Express and 2 Virgin Australia lounge entries each year
  • Free return Virgin Australia domestic flight every year
  • Earn 1.25 Velocity Points per $1 on regular spending (uncapped)

Velocity points lovers take a breath - you’re going to like this. The Velocity Platinum Card allows cardholders to earn 1.25 Velocity Points for every $1 spent on regular purchases and you’ll even be able to grab yourself 50,000 bonus Velocity points if you spend at least $3,000 in the first three months of owning the card. It doesn’t stop there though, because the card also comes with 2 complimentary American Express and 2 Virgin Australia lounge passes each year, as well as a free return domestic Virgin Australia domestic flight every year. Just make sure you enjoy all of these benefits because there is a $375 annual fee.

American Express cards with unlimited complimentary access

Cardholders listed below will have unlimited complimentary access to The American Express Lounge at the Sydney International Airport for each American Express Card account. Card Members are also entitled to bring their children (aged up to 17 years) and up to two guests into the lounge.

American Express cards with two complimentary entries per calendar year

Cardholders listed below are entitled to two complimentary entries each calendar year (from Jan 1 - Dec 31) to the American Express Lounges at Sydney or Melbourne International Airports. The entry can be used by the Basic Card Member, Supplementary Card Member or a guest travelling with a Card Member.
