Allianz Contents Insurance offers extensive cover for damage caused by fire, theft, storm and more. You’ll also be able to take advantage of some sweet discounts, including a 10% discount for taking out a new policy online and a no claims bonus that increases by 10% with every claim-free year, up to a total of 30%.
If you’re after a policy that combines wide-ranging cover with plenty of value, Allianz Contents Insurance is well worth a look. Lost cash is covered up to $2,000, as are any lost credit cards. As for jewellery, antiques and handwoven carpets, you’ll be covered for up to $2,500 per item, with a $7,500 total limit per item category.
Under the standard policy, your belongings will be covered in the event of a fire, theft, storm or act of vandalism. Plus, you can expect Allianz to replace any lost or damaged items with brand new ones of comparable value, no matter how old the original items were. If, however, you’re after flood, portable contents or accidental damage cover, you’ll need to take them out as optional extras.
There are also a number of discounts on the table which are sure to sweeten the deal. These include a 10% discount when purchasing a new policy online. You’ll also receive a 10% no claims bonus on your renewal premium after every claim-free year. This is capped at 30%, and will decrease by 10% with each claim you make. If you haven’t made any home or contents insurance claims in the last five years, you’ll immediately qualify for the maximum discount.
Allianz Contents Insurance would suit someone like a renter who only requires comprehensive insurance for their belongings (not the building they live in) especially if they can make use of the handy discounts on offer.
There are a few conditions you’ll have to be mindful of when taking out cover, so we encourage you to read carefully over the PDS. For example, in the event of a fire or explosion, there is a 72 hour exclusion period, in which any damage caused within the first 72 hours of taking out the policy or increasing the cover won’t be covered. And in the case of storms, cover doesn’t extend to damage caused by storm surges.

I first joined Allianz in 1999. I was at first quite happy and relieved to have insurance, it gave me peace of mind. It was the first time I considered putting in a claim that I realised the product had issues. Suddenly I required all kinds of proof of the exact value of household items and evidence of the damage done. I tried to fulfill the requirements for over a week and ended up unable to when an electrician charged me for a callout and then refused to do a letter for the insurance company. No claim, no reimbursement due to the rules but they kept taking my money. That is what my loathing of this company boils down to, they kept taking my money and taking it and taking it. All the while they did things to my policy without telling me or asking for any kind of permission. These included but were not limited to : - Increasing my excess by 300% - Removing burn out coverage from my policy - Removing coverage for spoiled food from my policy - Removing coverage of items owned by someone else but damaged, destroyed or stolen while in my property from my policy - Making coverage for items such as the above extras, with specified costs in addition to the overall cost of the policy In over 20 years I was never able to make a successful claim. A review of the policy as it was after 20 years of Allianz adjusting it showed me that I would never be able to claim unless a drastic event like a bushfire happened to my home. The excess on my policy was hugely high, the amount of coverage hadn't gone up nearly enough to pay to replace my belongings and Allianz's rules for proof of ownership, cost and the damage done by electrical events such as lightning had been made even more difficult to deal with. I gave up, cancelling the policy completely. I am quite happy not being covered by this greedy, unhelpful and dismissive company.
