The best insurance for Aussie landlords revealed in Mozo’s Inaugural Experts Choice Landlord Insurance Awards

Whether you’ve just started your ascent up the property ladder, or you’re a certified home investor, navigating life as a landlord can have its trials and tribulations. If you’ve spent your hard earned bucks to secure another set of keys, passing them over to strangers can feel like the ultimate trust-fall.

Even if you could be around to keep a watchful eye on everything, things could still go wrong, and that’s where it’s essential to have a great insurance policy. Where can you find that, you ask? Well, Mozo’s 2018 inaugural Experts Choice Landlord Insurance Awards, of course!

“With all the risks that come with renting out a property, top notch insurance should be at the front of landlord’s minds,” said Mozo Data Manager, Peter Marshall.

“We’re proud to say that the awards have found the best landlord insurance policies helping Australians save.”

The Landlord Insurance Awards are divided into two categories, Exceptional Value and Exceptional Quality, to cater for a variety of budgets and needs.

In order to receive a Mozo Experts Choice Value Award, Landlord insurance policies had to offer the best prices for the level of cover they include.

This year’s winners in the Value category included Budget Direct, ING, Westpac, Woolworths and RAC.

“Being on a tight budget is even more reason to have landlords insurance, as when things go wrong, you could be left pinching pennies in order to cover the cost of repairs or rebuilding,” Marshall said.

“With the Experts Choice Value Awards, you won’t have to compromise quality for value.”

Policies with great features and high cover limits were put into the running for an Exceptional Quality award, where the goal is to highlight the most comprehensive policies around.

ANZ, CommInsure, Westpac and RACV filled the top spots for the excellent cover they’re providing Aussie landlords.

Will comparing landlord insurance really help me save?

Most Aussies think switching insurance is a hassle, opting instead to stick with policies that may not be giving them the best value for their money.

“Switching to a better landlord insurance policy could not only help you save, but also really level up your insurance policy by offering you extra features or greater cover limits,” said Marshall.

Mozo’s Experts Choice Landlord Insurance Awards are designed to hold your hand and guide you through the complicated world of claims and premiums, so you don’t settle for second best.

Mozo Property Expert Steve Jovcevski layed out a few things you might come across as a landlord and why you need landlord insurance.

“One of the most common issues you’ll come across as a landlord is cracked pipes that cause water damage, especially in older houses,” Jovcevski said.

“Without insurance you could be forced to pay for the damage out of pocket.”

“And if due to water damage or another reason your home becomes uninhabitable for a few days and your tenants have to stay in a hotel, you’ll be glad you’ve got insurance covering the rent you lose during that period,” Jovcevski said.
