Want to avoid the hassle of taking out separate cover for your home and belongings? Why not consider QBE’s combined home and contents insurance policy. This insurance plan will cover both the bricks and mortar of your home and the items inside it. You'll be covered for events such as fire, flooding, storms and theft. Plus there's a maximum 30% safety net available if eligible, in case it turns out that your home is underinsured, and a 10% discount when you quote and buy online! Best of all, QBE took home a 2022 Mozo Experts Choice Award for Exceptional Quality Home & Contents Insurance.

Key features

QBE's home and contents insurance policy bundles together cover for your property and belongings. With this insurance plan you'll be covered in case of fire, flooding, storms, theft, vandalism, water damage and accidental breakage of glass.

In the event of damage to your home, cover is provided for temporary emergency repairs, accommodation costs and temporary storage of contents. Temporary accommodation is available in circumstances where your home becomes uninhabitable. For this QBE will pay for up to 24 months of accommodation, or 20% of your building’s sum insured (whichever is less). The same 20% coverage applies for your eligible insured contents.

On top of this, if your keys are stolen in Australia, QBE will cover up to $2,500 worth to replace them. In terms of contents, jewellery and watches will also be covered up to $2,500, collections up to $5,000, artworks, rugs and antiques up to $20,000 per item, set, or pair, cash, vouchers and coupons up to $800 and food and prescribed medicine that has to be kept refrigerated up to $500. If you wish, there’s also the option to increase cover for jewellery, watches and collections. Although this may increase the cost of your premium.

If it turns out that your building is underinsured, QBE also offers a 30% 'buildings sum insured safeguard.' This means that if you're eligible, QBE will pay up to 30% more of the buildings sum insured to help cover the costs to rebuild your home. This applies to claims where QBE has agreed to either repair or replace your property, or pay you a reasonable amount to repair or replace your home.

Should you want to increase your cover, cover for portable contents and accidental damage are available as optional extras. As these features aren’t included as standard, they will up the price of your premium. While we’re on the subject of price, it should also be noted that paying in instalments will cost you a bit extra as well.

Any catches

If you opt to pay in instalments, this will cost you a bit extra. Another thing worth noting is that smart watches are not covered with jewellery and watches cover.
