Budget Direct pet insurance policies

With Budget Direct Pet Insurance, you can choose one of three tiers of cover, for dogs & cats 8 weeks up to 9 years old.

  • Their top tier Plus plan provides the highest annual benefit limit of $25,000 and lets you add on routine care coverage for things like vaccinations and teeth cleanings.
  • The mid-level Comprehensive plan still gives you a generous $15,000 annual limit and the option for routine care as well.
  • Or you can go with their Essential plan for more basic accidental injury and illness coverage up to $12,000 per year.

No matter which level you choose, after any waiting periods you can claim 80% on eligible vet expenses, less any applicable excess and subject to policy limits (terms, conditions and exclusions apply). Budget Direct also aims to make the claims process easy, with most claims assessed within just 5 business days.

What is included in Budget Direct’s pet insurance policy?

Budget Direct pet insurance offers a standard selection of automatic benefits, such as accident and illness cover.

Check out the table above to see more detail about what to expect from a Budget Direct pet insurance policy. Make sure you also dig into Budget Direct’s product disclosure statement (PDS) for the full policy terms and conditions.

What optional extras can I add to Budget Direct pet insurance?

With Budget Direct's Plus and Comprehensive pet insurance policies, you can opt to add routine care coverage as an extra. This allows you to claim for routine treatments like:

  • Vaccinations
  • Routine health check-ups
  • Dental check-ups and scale/polish
  • Flea, tick and worming treatments
  • Blood/urine tests (unrelated to an injury or illness)
  • Alternative therapies like acupuncture (unrelated to an injury or illness)

Routine care claims are subject to their own annual benefit limit in addition to your overall policy benefit limit. There's also no waiting periods, excess or co-payments for routine care claims. Routine Care cover is not available at the Essentials level.

What exclusions apply to Budget Direct pet insurance?

Like all pet insurance policies, there are a few general exclusions that your Budget Direct won’t cover you for, including pre-existing conditions, intentional neglect or harm, and breed-specific conditions.

Furthermore, there are waiting periods you must adhere to after purchasing your policy, and these can differ based on what you’re claiming for. Coverage can also be denied if you miss a premium payment.

Always read the PDS for a more detailed understanding of Budget Direct’s exclusions.
