Frequently asked questions about Easy Travel insurance
Q1. What do Easy Travel Insurance policies cover?
Different Easy Travel Insurance policies will cover different things. As the name suggests, a comprehensive policy offers a higher level of cover than a Budget plan, which is designed for when you only need basic travel insurance coverage. Easy Travel Insurance policies are all covered in one product disclosure statement - which you can read here.
Some of the benefits covered in Easy Travel Insurance policies include:
- Cancellation or deferment costs
- Emergency travel and accommodation expenses
- Medical and dental expenses
- Evacuation and repatriation
- Cover for delayed, lost, damaged or stolen luggage
- Personal liability
- A bunch of adventure sports
Keep in mind that with the Budget plan, you’ll pay a lower premium, but your benefits limit is set lower as well.
Q2. What pre-existing conditions does Easy Travel Insurance cover?
Easy Travel Insurance cover a number of pre-existing medical conditions automatically and without extra charge. These conditions are covered as long as they are stable, and you aren’t currently undergoing or waiting for treatment or tests on them.
While policies generally only cover the pre-existing medical conditions of travellers, with Easy Travel Insurance comprehensive plans, you can apply to cover the pre-existing condition of a relative or friend under the age of 80 if it is likely to impact your travel plans. You just have to fill in an application form, and if it is approved, you will pay an extra premium, but you will be covered for delay or cancellation due to your non-traveling companions condition.
Comprehensive and multi-annual plans also include a list of high risk pre-existing conditions that you need to tell Easy Travel Insurance about before purchasing your policy. These conditions include cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease and neurological disorders.

Q4. Who can purchase Easy Travel Insurance policies?
Easy Travel Insurance offer policies to Australians of all ages. Here's how it breaks down:
International Comprehensive travel insurance: Is available regardless of age, but if you are 70 or over, or if you have a pre-existing medical condition, you may have to fill in a medical appraisal form and may also require a doctor's declaration form.
Annual multi-trip travel insurance: Available to people under 70 years of age, but if you have a pre-existing medical condition you may have to fill in a medical appraisal form.
Budget travel insurance: Available to travellers up to 80 years of age except if you're travelling to certain destinations such as USA, South and Central America and Antarctica, in which case, it's capped at 70 years old. This policy is only suitable if you have no pre-existing medical conditions, or if your condition is listed on the included medical conditions list.
Q5. What if I am travelling with my family and want to purchase an Easy Travel Insurance policy?
Good news! Easy Travel Insurance offers cover for your dependant children at no extra charge. A dependant can be either a child or grandchild (including step children), niece or nephew, under 25 years of age who is financially dependent on you for the duration of the trip.
Q6. What if I want to cancel my Easy Travel Insurance policy?
If you decide not to travel, or decide Easy Travel Insurance doesn’t suit your trip after all, there is a cooling off period of 21 days, during which you can cancel your policy for a full refund. This is on the condition that your trip has not started and that you haven’t exercised any right or made any claim under the policy yet. Outside this 21 day period, you’re not entitled to any refund on your premium. Easy Travel Insurance offer extensions on their policies, but the cooling off period does not apply to these, so be careful when applying for extensions!
If you cancel your Easy Travel Insurance policy, the refund is immediate - but remember that it might take a while for the funds to show up on your credit card or debit card account.
Q7. How can I earn Frequent Flyer points with my Easy Travel Insurance policy?
If you’re a member of Qantas’ Frequent Flyer club, you can turn your Easy Travel Insurance policy into Frequent Flyer points!
For every $2 you spend on your Easy Travel Insurance policy (excluding the Budget policy) you will earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point. All you need to do is enter your Frequent Flyer membership number when you buy your Easy Travel Insurance policy online and the points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account within 6 weeks of your departure. You have to be a member of the Frequent Flyer program ahead of time, and the terms and condition of that membership apply, as does a joining fee if you want to join up before buying your travel insurance policy.
How do I buy Easy Travel Insurance policies?
Easy Travel Insurance is just that - easy! You can purchase travel insurance policies online by going to the Easy Travel Insurance website and entering your destination, travel dates and the age of the people travelling into the easy quote generator. The fine print: some quick things to remember about your Easy Travel Insurance
Always keep an eye on the fine print when choosing your travel insurance policy! It’s important to know what’s included, excluded and if there are any unusual terms or conditions you need to be aware of before buying the policy or claiming on it. You can read our guide on travel insurance claims and why they might be rejected here. And in the meantime, here’s a few things to remember about your Easy Travel Insurance:
Proof of ownership
If you’re claiming loss, theft or damage to your personal items, you need to be able to prove you owned them and prove what they were worth. The easy way to do this is to keep the receipts. Some travel insurance providers will accept photos of your items as proof of ownership, but Easy Travel Insurance may not, if that’s the only proof you have.
Choosing your destination
When you choose your Easy Travel Insurance policy, you will have to select the destination of your trip. If you’re travelling to more than one country choose the one you will be in for the longest time. You will also have to make a note of whether your trip will include more than 72 hours in the Americas or Antarctica. If you don’t do this step correctly, you may not be able to make a claim on your policy.
Period of cover
In general, your cover starts when you’re given your certificate of insurance. Before then, you won’t be covered and certain benefits, like emergency medical assistance, don’t begin until your embark on your trip.
Emergency contact details
Make sure you carry the contact details for QBE’s emergency medical assistance team. There are different phone numbers for each country you might travel to, and also a number you can call that will accept reverse charges. Make sure you know these numbers and your own certificate of insurance number so you can get emergency help quickly.
How to make a claim with Easy Travel Insurance
Hopefully, you won’t have to make a claim on your Easy Travel Insurance policy, but in the event that you do, you can contact Easy Travel Insurance via email, phone or online. The easiest way is through their online lodgement form, through which you can make a claim 24/7 either while you’re overseas or when you return home.
When you go to make a claim, remember to have these details with you:
- Your travel insurance policy number. This should appear on your insurance certificate.
- Your contact details
- The details of your trip
- The details of your claim, including a description of what happened and any documents that support your claim, like medical or police statements or proof of ownership in the case of theft.
If you lodge your claim online, you should receive an immediate acknowledgement that it has been received and the outcome of your claim within 10 business days.
