Flight Centre plans

Flight Centre offers a few different travel insurance policies, which differ based on what kind of travelling you are doing. For those heading overseas, there are two tiers of international travel insurance, namely International Essentials, and International Plus.

For domestic travellers exploring this great Southern land, Flight Centre offers a Domestic policy, or most basically, a Domestic Cancellation cover policy. All of Flight Centre’s policies are available for single-trip and multi-trip purposes, except for Domestic Cancellation, which is good news for anyone travelling regularly for work, or just globetrotting. For those travelling to Australia for their holiday, they also offer an Inbound travel insurance policy, only suitable for those who do not reside in Australia. For an overview of what each policy covers, check out the comparison table below.

Terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits may apply to any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. These terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits could affect the level of benefits and cover available under any of the insurance products shown on the Mozo website. Please refer to the relevant Product Disclosure Statement and the Target Market Determination on the provider's website for further information before making any decisions about an insurance product.

Any information provided on this page should be considered a summary and general advice only. All information should be verified before purchase via the relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

What is included in a Flight Centre international travel insurance policy?

What you’re covered for will change depending on which policy you opt to go with and if you’re adding on any extra inclusions to your policy, like cruise cover.

But remember: check Mozo’s data fields or the latest Flight Centre Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for details on pay-out limits and general exclusions for specific areas across the different international policy options.

If you opt for the basic policy, International Essentials, you can expect cover for:

With the International Essentials plan, you can opt-in for coverage of your luggage, personal items, and travel documents, in case they are lost, damaged, or stolen. The same goes for rental car insurance excess cover. Unfortunately, they are not automatically included in Flight Centre’s most basic policy.

Flight Centre’s International Plus policy includes cover for everything listed in the Essentials plan, plus:

Does Flight Centre travel insurance cover COVID-19?

If the country you are travelling to is subject to a ‘Do Not Travel’ advice level on the Australian government’s Smartraveller website, then any COVID-19 related claims are not covered under Flight Centre’s international travel insurance policies. Similarly, if your claim arises from COVID-19 while on a multi-night cruise holiday, you will not be covered under Flight Centre’s policies.

However, for destinations not subject to a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning, the benefits for COVID-19 related costs are numerous. Flight Centre provides cover for overseas medical costs, mandatory quarantine and isolation expenses, costs associated with contracting COVID-19, and trip and accommodation cancellations related to COVID-19. However, it is important to note that some of these benefits only relate to travel within Australia and New Zealand, so it’s important that you check the fine print in the PDS to make sure you know what you’re covered for if you’re heading overseas to a country other than New Zealand.

What optional extras can I add to my Flight Centre policy?

Flight Centre offers both Snow Sports cover and Cruise insurance. If you’re adding either of these to your travel insurance policy, you will have to pay an additional premium. Without adding these optional extras, however, you won’t be covered if something goes wrong on the snow or the ocean.

Snow Sports cover

Snow Sports insurance comes in two tiers: Snow Sports and Snow Sports+. The standard snow sports insurance package covers you for all the standard inclusions of your existing policy, as well as on-piste skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. You are only covered for snow sports in this policy if you are on-piste, not participating in a professional capacity, or racing.

However, if your taste in adrenaline is a little more extreme, the Snow Sports+ add-on includes skiing and snowboarding off-piste, as well as heli-skiing. You are only covered under this policy if you are heli-skiing with a guide, skiing or snowboarding off-piste while not going against local advice or warnings, not participating professionally, or racing.

Cruise cover

If you’re going on a multi-night cruise holiday, whether international or domestic, cruise cover is a mandatory add-on to your policy. The benefits included in cruise cover are:

You wont need cruise cover if you are cruising in Australian waters or if you’re only on a cruise for one night.

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered under Flight Centre’s travel insurance?

Flight Centre covers a range of pre-existing medical conditions. In order to be covered under their policies, however, you must declare them in advance or run the risk of a claim being denied.

Flight Centre’s PDS has an in-depth definition of what an existing medical condition is, but generally speaking it is a medically-diagnosed illness or injury that has required hospitalisation or treatment at some point in the past 12 months.

Some of the pre-existing conditions which are included in Flight Centre’s policies are:

Please note that some of the listed pre-existing conditions do have their own specific eligibility criteria, so read the PDS to work out if your pre-existing condition is covered.

What sporting activities are covered?

Flight Centre travel insurance policies include coverage for a range of sporting activities as standard. So, whether you’re a sharp-shooting archer, a paragliding daredevil, or a rockpool snorkeller, you could be covered for a range of potential issues arising from your participation. One thing that’s important to note is participating in any of these activities in a professional manner voids your coverage.

The full list of activities included in Flight Centre’s policies as standard are:

However, some activities which could be considered as having a higher risk factor are not included automatically. Sporting activities like triathlons and skydiving are only covered if you purchase one of Flight Centre’s Adventure or Adventure+ policies as well.

Coverage for claims related to closed circuit triathlons, outdoor rock climbing, and scuba diving is only available if you opt for the Adventure pack, which comes at an extra premium.

If you’re planning on parachuting or skydiving, trekking for multiple days, or on the Kokoda Track, and you’re looking to get insurance coverage for those activities, then the Adventure+ pack is the way to go.

What exclusions are there to look out for in a 1Cover Travel Insurance policy?

If you’re travelling to a country that is on the Smartraveller advice level ‘Do not travel’, then Flight Centre will not cover you. This isn’t only for COVID-19, and can include countries experiencing riots, civil protests, and acts of war.

If your claim results from a lack of reasonable personal responsibility, then Flight Centre will not provide coverage. This includes situations where you leave your luggage unattended in an unlocked car, and it gets stolen.

What do I do if there’s an emergency during my trip?

If you end up in an emergency, Flight Centre’s emergency assistance team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They have a toll free number, and depending on where you’re calling from, can be reached on:

Flight Centre’s emergency assistance team can help you with:

When calling, it is helpful to have your policy number and a phone number to call you back on on-hand.

An average experience with Flight Centre.

Flight Centre were OK to deal with, not exceptional mind you. I flew to the US then travelled by train from San Francisco to New York. Luckily everything went pretty smoothly on the trip.

Great service along with great prices

I really like that they beat every other price by $1. This makes travel easy, but time consuming to deal with. However, I would recommend this provider.
