GIO General Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suncorp-Metway Ltd., one of Australia's top 25 companies. The Suncorp Group includes Australia's fourth largest general insurance group and sixth largest bank. GIO offers different levels of car, home and travel insurance.

Unfortunately, there's no option to give a zero-star rating here! Suncorp Insurance (including AAMI, GIO, and AAI—all the same under different names) fails to provide quality service for customers and car repairs. You have the option to choose your own repairer or go with their recommended repairer. However, if you choose your own, Suncorp often neglects to support the customer and seems to avoid providing assistance. When customers request information, Suncorp frequently refuses to share it. The only solution to this issue seems to be involving the ACCC, Fair Trading, or other relevant consumer protection services.
GIO are a good solid insurance company! I've had house and contents insurance with them for more than 10 years, and I at present see no reason to change from the current arrangement. They allow you to tailor your cover to your own particular circumstances, which suits me. They also have a proven reputation. I guess the disadvantage is the price of the premiums, they have gone up with inflation, like everything else in our economy.
