American Express takes top credit card gong in Experts Choice Awards

Credit card heavyweight, American Express has dominated in a range of categories to take out the ‘Provider of the Year’ award in the Mozo’ Experts Choice Awards released today.

Improving on the 7 awards it took home last year, American Express won an impressive 11 awards this time around, making it the most successful of the 65 credit card issuers that were involved this year.

“American Express was a standout this year and well deserved of the Credit Card Provider of the Year title, sweeping up one or more Mozo Experts Choice Awards in eight different categories,” said Mozo Director, Kirsty Lamont.

Rather predictably, the provider performed well in the rewards categories. Lamont said that American Express provided a great example of a lender that is still offering value in its rewards cards.

“American Express has lived up to its reputation as the destination for generous customer perks, shining in all of the rewards and premium rewards categories. This indicates that rewards card lovers can still own a generous rewards card even in this current climate of diminishing value, providing they know where to look,” she said.

More surprising, however, was the performance of the provider’s non-rewards credit cards.

“For those who don’t hold a rewards card, American Express still delivers exceptional value. Both the Low Rate Credit Card and Essential Credit Card ranked among the best value no annual fee and balance transfer cards in the market,” said Lamont.

In calculating the award winners, Mozo analysed 190 personal credit card products issued by 65 Australian financial institutions based on data contained in Mozo’s product database as of 2 October 2017.
