Are you taking advantage of these free social credit cards perks?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t be shocked to learn that many credit cards come with a range of rewards - namely in the form of rewards points.

What you may be surprised by, however, are some of the more unexpected features your credit card comes packed with, including handy social perks that could make your plastic your most valuable friend.

“Many Australians own a credit card, but most won’t be aware that the piece of plastic sitting in their wallet could actually be saving them money or giving them exclusive access to a range of events and offers,” said Mozo Director, Kirsty Lamont.

“Cardholders should keep in mind that like all rewards incentives, these perks may be a welcome extra, but they should still be compared against the general value of the card including features like the annual fee and interest rate.”

So what are some of the best social perks you could be missing out on?

Delights for every foodie

As anyone who’s ever been to the Night Noodle Markets in Sydney or Melbourne will know, space and seating are at a premium. Thankfully you won’t have to worry if you’re a Citi cardholder, as for the past few years Citi has given customers exclusive access to a VIP bar and dinner space as part of the Citi Dining program.

American Express members can also enjoy some culinary delights of their own, with AMEX’s global ‘taste’ dining program providing a range of special offers and discounts to cardholders at 400 restaurants around the world.

Free culture while you’re art and about

Enjoy your art? Well you’ll want to keep your credit card handy next time you hit up a gallery.

This year alone ANZ offered cardholders free access to the 2017 Archibald Prize, while Citi once again teamed up with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney to provide cardholders a 2 for 1 ticket deal for a range of exhibitions.

Be entertained

If art or food aren't really your things, there are a host of cards that could give you access to other exclusive events and deals.

American Express members who love a good film can get discounted tickets, access to pre-sales and even complimentary blanket hire at AMEX OpenAir cinemas across Australia - with locations in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth.

Speaking of films, St.George cardholders also have the chance to take advantage of presale tickets at the St.George Open Air Cinema in Sydney’s Botanic Garden over the summer months.

Even if you don’t have a St.George or American Express card, there’s a good chance you do have one issued by Visa or Mastercard which means you’re in luck because both offer respective rewards programs for cardholders - the Mastercard Priceless Cities program and the Visa Entertainment program.
