eBay data reveals Aussies will spend $140m on beauty products in 2019

With eBay data predicting that Aussies will spend a tremendous $140-million online on beauty products in 2019, and an unbelievable $11-million in just April alone, it’s official. Aussies are total online-shopaholics!

eBay’s top beauty trends for 2019

Aside from the fact that the only place where it’s socially acceptable to shop in PJ’s with a glass of red in hand is in a virtual-store, eBay’s top beauty trends for 2019 reveal some of the other factors influencing Aussies’ preference to opt for an online shop.

Boys in beauty

Thanks to the enormous success of ambitious Aussie men, like YouTuber Michael Finch who's killing it in the beauty industry, more and more men are being inspired to jump on the beauty bandwagon, with eBay data revealing that nearly 1 in 5 beauty purchases are made by men.

Star power

Despite the rise in social media influencers, celebrities still reign supreme when it comes to who has the most buying power. Rihanna’s very own Fenty Beauty range is definite proof of this, with it's eBay sales increasing by a whopping 239% in 2019.

A beauty junkie never sleeps

If you’re looking to catch a beauty junkie in their natural habitat, then you're going to need to pull an all-nighter folks! eBay's data found that Aussies are waiting up to get the latest beauty scoop from their favourite international YouTuber’s, with 15% of Aussies buying makeup from midnight to 9.00am.

Biggest beauty culprits

As it turns out, the Queensland cities of Mackay, Toowoomba, Cairns, Bundaberg and Hervey Bay are home to regional Australia’s highest beauty spenders. However, the biggest culprits of all are none other than South-West Sydney’s Liverpool locals, who are dropping big bucks on eyelash extensions.

So, if you’ve come to terms with your online shopping addiction, then use these quick money tips the next time you get the urge to splurge!

  • Pay off your credit card balance each month: Alright, alright. Sephora had a sale, you got a little overexcited, and now you’re left with a big fat credit card bill. It happens. Just make sure you remember to pay off your credit card balance before the due date, or else you’ll pay the price in interest!
  • Get paid to shop (kind of!): If you’re a regular online shopper, then it might be worth your while to look into getting a rewards credit card so you can earn rewards like frequent flyer points for your online and everyday purchases. Just keep in mind, rewards cards usually charge an annual fee and have higher interest rates than a regular credit card.
  • Budget, baby! If you find yourself scrounging for coins by the end of each month because you blew your pay on makeup (yet again), then it’s probably time to punch some numbers into our budget calculator and set yourself a budget. Rather than depriving yourself of makeup shopping entirely (which only ever ends in you blowing all your money on it later), allocate a monthly makeup allowance so you can get your makeup fix without overdoing it or cutting into your savings.
