New world-first HSBC Star Alliance credit card extends frequent flyer points to 7 airlines

Just in time for the Christmas holidays, HSBC have announced a new credit card designed to really get the most out of every dollar you spend.
Breaking ground on the Australian market, the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card allows you to convert Star Alliance points to one of 7 alliance member airlines. Points can also be converted between loyalty programs.
This is in contrast to the majority of Australian frequent flyer cards, which are tied to a specific airline’s points program like Qantas frequent flyer or Virgin Velocity points.
The airlines and loyalty programs affiliated with the Star Alliance card are:
- Air Canada
- Air New Zealand
- EVA Air
- Singapore Airlines
- South African Airways
- Thai Airways
- United Airlines
With HSBC’s studies showing that 55% of Australians are looking to travel overseas in the next year, this credit card focuses on making it easy for consumers to travel globally while accessing status rewards across airlines.
In fact, you can fast-track your way to gold status with your chosen airline using the HSBC Star Alliance Card. When you spend $4,000 within the first 90 days of approval, you’ll be able to nominate an airline to elect to have gold status in.
This world-first addition to the credit card market adds a competitive edge to frequent flyer cards, making borderless travel easier than ever.
