August 2024 Financial Checklist

Financial goal planning

As we move into the final stretch of winter, August could be a great time to check in and get better aligned with your finances. Thankfully, your favourite monthly read is here to help you do it! Your August 2024 Financial Checklist awaits:

1. Celebrate National Financial Awareness Day

Coming up on the 14th of August is National Financial Awareness Day. This day serves as a good reminder to do a financial health check and get better educated on personal finance. Let's be real. Ignorance isn’t bliss when it comes to your finances. So, take a moment to check in with your bank accounts so you can get on track towards your money goals.

2. Track your spending

Speaking of getting on track with your finances – a great way to do this is by tracking your spending with the help of a handy budgeting and savings app. This way, you can see where all of your money is going each month and make tweaks to help you save a little extra.

This might mean cancelling some unused subscriptions that you’ve forgotten about or switching your daily takeaway coffee for a homemade one.

3. Avoid a whopper winter energy bill

With just one month of winter left, you might want to rethink some of your current electricity habits to avoid a whopper of an energy bill at the end of winter. Try to make using the heater or air conditioner a last resort and try other ways of getting warm first, like wearing extra layers or opening blinds to let the morning sun in.

4. Check in with your credit score

With the new financial year here, you might be thinking about taking out a personal loan, car loan or other type of finance for a big purchase. Before doing so, make sure to do a quick credit score check-in to ensure you’re in a position to borrow without it impacting your credit record.

Whether this involves landing a new role at work or acquiring a new investment property - it could pay to be open to new opportunities that align with your long-term goals, Leo.
