Huddle has been making waves in the car insurance world since 2016, offering innovative policy options alongside their essential coverage for accidents and natural disasters. The Huddle Black policy is the company’s premium level car insurance, which features larger benefits and more standard inclusions than the main comprehensive policy, for a higher premium. This comes on top of the pay-as-you-drive policy option which can reduce premiums for those who drive less, and the handy online claims processing tool which can help you make a claim and receive a verdict in minutes.

Key features

When it comes to money-saving features, Huddle’s pay-as-you-drive policy option is the gold standard. With Huddle Black, you can opt-in for a premium reduction based on the number of kilometres you drive each year, with an odometer read at the beginning and end of the policy period. You can choose anywhere between 1,000km and 15,000km in the tiered system, which applies a discount according to the distance you estimate. Just keep in mind there’s an additional $1,000 if you make a claim and you’ve driven over your allotted kilometres, so be sure to keep an eye on your odometer and let Huddle know if you need to bump up the limit (for a fee).

You’ll find coverage limits across specific policy items are also significantly increased with Huddle’s premium policy level. You’ll have up to $1,000 devoted to personal property should it be damaged inside your car, plus another $500 for child safety seats and prams and $2,000 dedicated to replacing locks and keys if stolen.

There’s also considerable cover for emergencies. There’s a generous $2,000 to cover your travel costs after an accident, which can also be used for temporary accommodation if you are more than 100km away from home. Reasonable towing costs are included, as is roadside assistance. And if your car is written-off, Huddle will replace it with a brand new one so long as you hold the original registration, the vehicle is under 3 years old and has driven less than 70,000km.

While rental hire car cover after a theft is included (up to $80 a day for 14 days), it comes as an optional extra for an additional premium if it’s after an accident. However, under a Huddle Black policy you will get the useful feature of having $2,000 in excess covered whenever you hire a car in Australia. This means if you get into a scrape on holiday while driving a rental car, you can feel secure knowing at least a solid chunk of your insurance excess is covered by your personal Huddle policy.
