Mozo snapshot

Huddle is relatively new on the car insurance scene (their Aussie policies first went on sale in 2016), and they’re offering some pretty innovative policy options alongside their broad coverage for accidents and natural disasters. If you don’t rack up many kilometres each year, you could reduce your premium with their pay-as-you-drive policy, and if you do need to make a claim, you could be able to lodge it and get a decision within minutes using their online claims processing tool.

Huddle's Comprehensive Car Insurance is also a multi-award winner! In 2022 it took out a Mozo Experts Choice Car Insurance Award for Exceptional Value Car Insurance.

Key features

One of Huddle’s stand-out money-saving features is the pay-as-you-drive policy option. If you estimate you drive less than 15,000km a year, Huddle offers up to a 30% discount on yearly premiums compared to its regular comprehensive cover since you’re on the road less and thus less at risk of being in an accident and claiming on your cover. This incentive to use your car less also lines up with Huddle’s B Corp certification and commitment to sustainability.

There are also decent coverage limits for specific items. You’ll have up to $500 devoted to personal property should it be damaged inside your car, plus another $500 for child safety seats and prams. The policy also comes with $500 to cover your travel and accommodations costs after an accident if you are more than 200km away from home and your car isn't driveable, reasonable towing costs, and up to $1,000 to replace locks and keys if stolen.

Plus, if your car is written-off Huddle will replace it with a brand new one. Just remember, this only applies if the car is under two years old and you're the original registered owner, or if it was a dealer demonstrator model when you bought it.

There are some benefits which are only offered as optional extras for an additional premium, though. This includes roadside assistance, a hire car after an accident (it’s included as standard after a theft), excess-free windscreen cover, $3,000 of sports gear damage cover and ‘Kanga Cover’ which includes waiving your basic excess if your vehicle collides with an animal (this is only for the first collision in each policy period).

Your policy details can be managed online and most claims can be lodged efficiently (sometimes instantaneously depending on the claim type) through the company’s portal, Zap Claims.
