5 low cost activities to do on the school holidays

The April school holidays are right around the corner which means your kids will be home for two whole weeks. If you’re out of ideas on how to keep them occupied during the holiday period, fear not! We have some creative, low budget (or free) activities that will keep the kids pumped with excitement and help you create some great memories along the way.

1. Enjoy a family picnic

Get the kids to help pack the picnic basket with some yummy treats and have a picnic. This could be at the local park, by the beach or even in your own backyard. You could even get them to help you prepare some sandwiches or snacks to enjoy at the park.

2. Get creative

Pull out the arts and crafts kit and put your creative hats on. All you need is some cardboard, pens and your imagination and you can create fun artworks, gift cards, and so much more. IF you’re stuck for ideas, check out Pinterest for fun creations the kids will love.

3. Have a day by the water

The warmer weather is still hanging around during the days of April, so why not take the family to the beach  or lake for a quick dip or play in the sand? Get back to nature and feel the sand between your toes and this is sure to help tire the kids out for a big sleep.

4. Have a playdate at home

Invite a few classmates over for some fun. Get out the boardgames, make a cheap grazing board or put on a movie with some popcorn and watch the kids have a blast these holidays.

5. Teach them the importance of money

While they’re home for the holidays, why not teach your kids the valuable lesson of how to save and spend wisely? You can even make it fun by giving them a small amount of cash and letting them choose what they want to spend it on so they can understand just how much things cost. You could also help them set up a savings account so they can watch their money grow over time.

There are plenty of great savings accounts to pick from, perfect for getting the kids learning about money. Compare some of the top savings accounts below.
